let's play a game of "which is more likely"

A. FO realizes Granlund is a super good, important player and only Sullivan is standing in the way, thus they fire Sullivan and Granlund goes on to achieve NHL greatness surpassing our wildest imagination.

B. Granlund and his cap hit are moved out in a deal that brings back 100+ pt Erik Karlsson and Sullivan remains coach.

Not saying Sullivan isn't a problem, he 100% is, but let's be realistic for a moment - Granlund is hardly the player that's going to tip anything against Sullivan. He was a dud here. He was moved. That's life. I still do that trade 10/10 times.
Well I agree with that assessment, but I also wasn't suggesting that. I was just using Grandlund as the latest example of a mountain of sully failure

The Sharks obviously won the trade because Granlund exploded and they'll probably be able to get a 1st for him. I still don't think the Penguins did bad in the deal, it's just a deal that didn't make sense for them with the state of the team. I understand why Dubas made the deal but it wasn't the right move for the team to make.

If this team would have made the playoffs last year, no one would have cared about the Karlsson trade. But because it became painfully obvious they're cooked, that's what made the deal bad.

I wish we could see what EK could be like for us under a different head coach, one who understands him. It doesn't make any sense to acquire him and then not let him go wild.

Speaking of Midnight Judges (and I know you're reading this because the keyword Ovechkin is in this post). EK's usage here kind of reminds me of when Hunter was coaching the Caps and he stapled Ovechkin to the bench when the game was tight, because he was terrible defensively. But at the end of the day, Ovechkin was going to create scoring opportunities and force the other team to defend.

Outside of like the last couple minutes of the game, it didn't make any sense to try to go into a shell and put the grinders out instead of Ovechkin, hoping that they didn't get caved in too bad and blow the lead. Play to your strengths, put Ovechkin out and try to pad the lead.

With Karlsson he's pretty clearly been told to not play so aggressively or take as many chances as he did in SJ. So why trade for him if you're going to handcuff him? If we wanted a responsible defenseman who can move the puck we should have looked elsewhere, that's not who he is. When you put Karlsson on the blueline you set him loose and take the bad with the good.
