Confirmed with Link: Penguins acquire conditional first round pick, three players for Pettersson and O'Connor

Unironically stoked with the deal. Petts gone, a 1st coming back, and DOC gone. Win.

Don't know or care about Desharnais or Fernstrom, but Melvin Fernstrom sounds like a bit character from Futurama so that's cool.

Dunno about the conditions on the 1st beyond top-13 protected. Hopefully it's like 14th overall or gets kicked to next season and Igor has to have season ending hip surgery in October or something.

For those just skimming and who don't want to read the link:
- The first round pick is top 13 protected. It'll be a 2025 first unless the Rangers' pick ends up in the top 13, in which case it'll become a 2026 first round pick.

- We know Danton Heinen.

- Vincent Deshairnais is a 6'7, 226 pound right defenseman who will probably end up on the third pairing when all is said and done. He's nothing special.

- Heinen and Deshairnais were in the deal to balance out cap hits. They're both signed through next season.

- Besides the pick, the other notable asset in the deal is Melvin Fernstrom, a promising former third round pick who is currently playing in the Swedish pro league at 18 years old.

love this deal. what are the conditions of the 2025 first rounder? never mind, just saw above.

On what planet is this dude only 28 years old :laugh::laugh:

We took on 4+ mil this year and next with Heinen and Desharnais so that’s why there isn’t any retention and we got a better pick return.
Better pick and an intriguing prospect for good measure. Desharnais can play on third pairing and Heinen is who he is. If young guys come up and push him out, so be it.

Rangers at about #10 right now. Need them to be just a little better. Looks like a possible #5 and #15 pick in the next draft. That's pretty big. Zero 2nd round picks but three 3rd rounders.

Thank you for this. I didnt realize this was the Heinen that was here before.

The 1st is nice.

And yeah Pettersson is a UFA and has had a bad season, but he was really good last season. I mean we could bring him back in the offseason, so that's the upside. For an old, slower team, I don't like losing DOC.
Maybe taking Heinen was important for VAN to give up the 1st, but he's just such a blah player. That is just gonna take away a spot from more deserving players like Puljujarvi or Pustinen.

And yeah we're sort of in tank mode, but great, Graves will always be in the line up now. :/

Good thing we play the Rangers soon…we can lose to them and help that along lol

Please do not bring back Marcus Pettersson.
