Penalty shot or 2 minute minor??

I've always felt the team should have the choice to either take the shot or the penalty. There are a lot of circumstances where the penalty is more valuable - especially late in a game where the team has a lead. It's better to have the 2 mins where you should be in control than a 20-30% chance of a goal, at least in my opinion.

Besides, we are 0-5 on them this year

When TJ Brodie got that penalty shot against the Blues, we knew the chances of him scoring a goal in that situation was very low and that's exactly what happened.

Penalty shot, if missed/saved then a 2 minute penalty. It would have the desired effect of making it a more severe sanction for the foul play.

The above is good. Some other wrinkles: anyone on the ice at the time of the infraction can take the shot. Also, if there is a choice between a 2-minute penalty or a shot and the shot is declined for the penalty, make it a FULL two minutes, whether a goal is scored or not. Like back in the day B4 the Habs ruined it for everyone. That would put the fear of God into any defender contemplating dragging a guy down on a breakaway. Pretty sure Gary and his minions would throw their hands up in horror at such radical ideas though. "Heavens above...giving one team an advantage because the other team broke the rules? We can't have that now, can we"?

I always wished you still get the Powerplay after a penalty shot.
Any of which options that would work:
A) Penalty Shot miss = Powerplay
B Penalty Shot Goal = No powerplay
C) Penalty Shot Goal = Still get powerplay

Even allowing can choose the taker whether they have to be on ice or any player.

All of which would be better than current set up.

The penalty shot is the most exciting play in hockey… I agree there’s some merit to the idea but at the end of the day I don’t think it should be tampered with

It WAS the most exciting play in hockey until it got watered down by the shootout.

I voted yes, but I think I actually would say no to this. Penalty shots (not shootouts) are more fun than power plays. Maybe change it so that you can choose whoever you want to take the shot, so it would be more likely for a goal to occur.
