Isles have an upcoming logjam potentially at LHD and want some cap space, while looking to pick up some picks, while Trotz has a lot of familiarity and respect for Pelech's game when he was his coach, so has does this sound?

Pelech (4 years at $5.75 mill)
Quinn Finley (20G/20A at Wisconsin last year)

for

2025 #26 (Vegas's)
Lauzon (one year at $2 mill, so we get out of the Pelech years, and we can waive him if one of our kids is ready)
2026 4th Rd

Pelech is a guy who can be a shutdown upgrade for a team right now, but has big decline risk over the next four years of his deal.

Nashville is a team in a bad position right now, but would like to accumulate some young assets and engineer a quick turnaround to be competitive two or three years from now.

It doesn't make sense.

What about Pelech for Turcotte straight up?

Makes no sense for Nashville. Preds already have Josi, Skej, Wilsby, Stastny, and Molendyk (plus Lauzon) as LHD. Real need is RHD. You want to move Pulock, Preds might have interest.

Just an idea. Like other posters have said you can't move risk without taking risk. I think it's a good basis for a trade assuming the Islanders draft Schaefer.
Even if they don’t it’s a good base. They move one of the long term aging pieces (with too many years left) and get a project they can put on the 3rd line to see if he can produce then go from there. I don’t hate it and the team needs changes with some of the long term pieces.

I don't think the Islanders should be jumping to get rid of their LD just because they're likely getting Schaefer. He's not even 18 yet, is likely playing another year in juniors, and you probably don't want to throw him to the wolves when he does make the jump.

Pelech can be a good vet to learn from and take the hard matchups. A lot more than Lauzon.

Pelech has little value, no value or negative value. Romanov, Dobson and Pulock do have trade value. If Islanders start rebuilding, Pelech would be the least likely D to be traded in my opinion. Mayfield 2nd least likely.

On top of this, you have Nashville giving a 1st rounder in a deal for Pelech. Absolutely not. Not happening.

On top of all that, Nashville has too many left handed D right now and desperately need right handed D. Maybe more than any other team in the league. Giving a 1st and or Lauzon for a D would only be for a right handed D.

Definite no from the Nashville side. Already have a ton of young LHD that either aren't playing or are playing on the right side less effectively. You want to toss out a decent RHD then there might be something to talk about.

I'm more than happy to let Lauzon go for a bag of pucks if someone wants him just so he isn't around for Trotz to give out another stupid contract that makes little sense.

Does Pelech suck now? I feel like it was only like two seasons ago he was talked about as a #1 shutdown D.
He sucked 1 year ago. Haven't paid full attention since, but Isles fans don't talk as if he's fully rebounded and has any trade value, so I'll assume he still sucks.

Cap hit + years remaining + sucks = negative trade value. He might have improved to the point where his value is zero-ish and not negative, IDK.

Can an Islander fan give me the skinny on Pelech and Pulock? I swear they were looked at as like great assets not long ago.
They're decent. Don't really have any issues with Pulock. Isles fans have offered him in trades because he's a competent RD, we have good depth there, and we need help up front. Problem is he has a full NTC, so I don't see him going anywhere. Others feel differently.

Pelech isn't an elite defensive defenseman anymore but still decent enough IMO. His issue is injuries, which I suspect is why he's not as good as he used to be. He might be playing more carefully to avoid headshots. Unfortunately he still gets drilled occasionally.

In terms of Nashville I don't see any match. It doesn't matter that Trotz is in charge, they need to get younger.
