Sometimes people mature as they age. I thought his first playoff year in Boston was good, last one was lacking but it wasn’t really an effort thing. More snakebit than anything else. The entire team was overmatched against Florida though.

If he were moved I’d expect it would be at a deadline and he’d return something similar to what Carlo just returned, I think that’s about where his value is. I get that you don’t see him as that and for good reason- he didn’t play all that well in NJ.
He was drafted to be a core player with NJ and he topped out as a complimentary player. There is nothing wrong with that but given the state of the NJ roster during his formative years he left a lot of the fans wanting more. It's not his fault he was drafted where he was. Had he gone lower in the round to a team that was not rebuilding he would have likely been seen more positively.

I've always felt like NJD fans hate him because he didn't become a 100 point 1C. I get it.. amazing draft and he was taken high. But he has become a very good NHl player. He's no McDavid though.lol

I don't think he's hated. Most posters in the NJ section seem to have a mixture of fondness with disappointment with one or two calling him a "bust" which is hyperbole.

The more the cap goes up the more difficult it is to completely rebuild or retool because you're still required to hit the cap floor and that's hard to do when a team has too many ELC or second contracts. There is the option of buying up all the Shea Weber and Robin Lehner contracts you can find but.....

The Bruins I suspect will certainly try to ramp up their developmental system but they'll also be players when free agency comes around in July. They'll have a lot of holes to fill anyway.
