He had a bad sophomore season, exacerbated by the concussion and the team's general malaise. That's about all I take out of it. He's still a fantastic talent who's 22 and on his ELC and in good shape to grow with the new core and new coaching staff they are/will be bringing in.

Very much looking forward to seeing how he, Vesey (if he's still here), and the other kids do in a new enviornment next year.

One of the laziest players we’ve had in a long time. Quietest point total I can remember. Skates like Brandon Pirri. Blaming AV for this guy’sperformance is crazy. If he weren’t Russian he’d have been sent to the minors a long time ago to figure out what it takes to earn your job.

Right now he’s basically a PP specialist. And with additional mins after the deadline he played even worse.

Has a lot to do this summer to figure it out.
He’s a PP specialist because he doesn’t f***ing play at even strength.

@Kovalev27 only having a (very) short term memory to make a conclusion on a player.... and what else is new.

Quietest points total? That’s because you can’t think passed 2-3 months at most. Buchnevich has been one of the best Rangers forwards in the first half but sophomores are not allowed to show inconsistencies in their games, right? No doubt he’s got a lot of personal work to do make it a thing of the past (and I promise you - there will be more ups and downs in his career) but the way he was handled by AV definitely didn’t help.

Play like you care you’ll get more mins. Enough of this coddling. Had every chance in the world especially after the deadline. He did ZERO with the opportunity. Meanwhile Jesper Fast with a quarter the talent was putting up a pt per game with his shot on the top line. Lazy kid relying on his skill. Go earn your ice time. You’re a 22 year old nobody shouldn’t be given a top 6 spot just because.

He had a bad half of sophomore season is how I’d put it. The rest I completely agree.

I don’t give a shit if he cares or not, he puts up points. Play your good players.

Having said all that about buchnevich. Vesey has a long way to go. Guy tries hard which is why the coaches keep giving him ice time. But he’s awful defensively can’t make a play and when he misses wide open chances he’s killing himself. Let’s not compare the two.

Buchnevich though with half of veseys effort would be a star player. Which makes his play even worse. It’s all about effort for him. He doesn’t play like he wants to win or be a difference maker

Vesey should be a 4th liner I’ve said that multiple times. But when your team gets gutted at the deadline and guys should be hustling for playing time buchnevich decided to mail it in. Amazed at his attitude.

Vesey and Fast busting their asses every night. A quarter of buchnevich’s talent and they ran circles around him. He’s on the fourth line On a terrible team right now. That’s on him and him alone. Go earn your ice time.

Disappointing sophomore campaign, but Buch is still obviously a very talented kid with lots of upside. Would like to see him continue to get stronger on the puck, more assertive, and more aware defensively. Points are important, but you can't float through games the way he has at times. If he wants to be a top line guy he has to put in the work.

Season 1 vs. Season 2 (season one stat listed first):

All Situations:

P/60: 2.21 vs. 2.32
P1/60: 1.55 vs. 1.73
GS/60: 2.13 vs. 2.15
CF%: 55.63 vs. 56.08
Rel CF%: 8.56 vs. 12.37
Rel GF%: 12.1 vs. 19.19
xGF%: 61.76 vs. 58.58
Rel xGF%: 13.66 vs. 14.71

Better across the board here, except for xGF%, but thats easily explained by the team being awful. The Rel version shows an improvement.

Even Strength:

P/60: 2.12 vs. 1.75
P1/60: 1.46 vs. 1.34
GS/60: 2.03 vs. 1.71
CF%: 50.24% vs. 48.45
Rel CF%: 2.9 vs. 3.29
Rel GF%: 3.09 vs. 6.08
xGF%: 54.49 vs. 49.46
Rel xGF%: 6.67 vs. 2.54

He was worse this season at ES, better on the PP. Given that the team also sucked, I thought it might be worth seeing where he stood in the team ranks for both.

P/60: 2nd last season, 5th this season
P1/60: 5th last season, 8th this season
GS/60: 4th last season, 6th this season

So definitely a little worse, although this includes the full season stats for guys like Namestnikov, Spooner, Nash ahead of him. They got the advantage of playing on better hockey teams, which upped their stats, I don't know how to adjust for just their NYR play. Maybe his stats aren't any worse if we adjust for only the NYR stats of those players?

Did he get worse line mates this season?

TOIQoT: 12th last season, 10th this season
CFQoT: 9th last season, 12th this season

So it looks like he was slightly higher in the line arrangements this season on average, but his line mates performed worse (in CF% at least), which makes sense, given we were a lot worse this season. But given his ES rel CF% went up, it wasn't that he made their percentages worse.

You could harp on worse ES performance, but all situations, his stats are better across the board. I think it would be very harsh to claim this was a "disappointing" or "worse" season, unless we are talking about ice time related, which would be on the guy who was just fired, not the player.

But what about his heat map? ;)

Someone said it a few pages back, but Buch just hasn't been the same since his concussion. I was happy with pre-concussion Buch, and we saw flashes of dominance from him. Let him get healthy and stronger in the offseason, and I bet he'll hit his stride next season.

Third liners play the PP, he produced at a third line level in those games. Whats your point? Your comment was wrong, and I stated how. I didn't say he was playing well in those games.

I love this type of comment. It discredits the argument you are trying to make when you have to make points unrelated to the content of the discussion. It absolutely is disrespectful to blame a player for something that mostly isn't their fault, and then conclude that they had corrected something that they were doing wrong when they have success. It couldn't have been a usage problem.

Is it also disrespectful to blame everything else for something that mostly is their fault? If so, somebody can claim that's what you're doing. We're all calling it as we see it when it comes to Buchnevich having a bad stretch down the season, whatever you want to blame, whatever they want to blame, it's not disrespectful because none of it can be 100% proven what's at fault. So nobody here is blaming a player for something that "mostly" isn't their fault.

It seems he and Namestnikov are bonding. They seem to be running buddies. They also seemed to have been developing some chemistry playing together.

Vesey led the Rangers in even-strength goals this year, aside from Grabner.

Vesey is not a 4th line player. AV was an imbecile with Vesey. He's a big guy with very good hands. He should be a fixture on the 2nd PP unit and in front of the net. Hayes really showed a ton of improvement once that dope Miller stopped taking his role role. I think we see Vesey take a big step up next year.

Not a fan of Buchnevich's game. I would easily trade him if it could move me from the 20th pick in this draft to 12 to 14.
