Season 1 vs. Season 2 (season one stat listed first):
All Situations:
P/60: 2.21 vs. 2.32
P1/60: 1.55 vs. 1.73
GS/60: 2.13 vs. 2.15
CF%: 55.63 vs. 56.08
Rel CF%: 8.56 vs. 12.37
Rel GF%: 12.1 vs. 19.19
xGF%: 61.76 vs. 58.58
Rel xGF%: 13.66 vs. 14.71
Better across the board here, except for xGF%, but thats easily explained by the team being awful. The Rel version shows an improvement.
Even Strength:
P/60: 2.12 vs. 1.75
P1/60: 1.46 vs. 1.34
GS/60: 2.03 vs. 1.71
CF%: 50.24% vs. 48.45
Rel CF%: 2.9 vs. 3.29
Rel GF%: 3.09 vs. 6.08
xGF%: 54.49 vs. 49.46
Rel xGF%: 6.67 vs. 2.54
He was worse this season at ES, better on the PP. Given that the team also sucked, I thought it might be worth seeing where he stood in the team ranks for both.
P/60: 2nd last season, 5th this season
P1/60: 5th last season, 8th this season
GS/60: 4th last season, 6th this season
So definitely a little worse, although this includes the full season stats for guys like Namestnikov, Spooner, Nash ahead of him. They got the advantage of playing on better hockey teams, which upped their stats, I don't know how to adjust for just their NYR play. Maybe his stats aren't any worse if we adjust for only the NYR stats of those players?
Did he get worse line mates this season?
TOIQoT: 12th last season, 10th this season
CFQoT: 9th last season, 12th this season
So it looks like he was slightly higher in the line arrangements this season on average, but his line mates performed worse (in CF% at least), which makes sense, given we were a lot worse this season. But given his ES rel CF% went up, it wasn't that he made their percentages worse.
You could harp on worse ES performance, but all situations, his stats are better across the board. I think it would be very harsh to claim this was a "disappointing" or "worse" season, unless we are talking about ice time related, which would be on the guy who was just fired, not the player.
