Pavel Buchnevich Appreciation Thread

I remember early on there was a point in time where the Rangers had to decide between keeping one of their third round picks. It was going to be either him or Duclair. The Rangers decided to trade away Duclair and keep Buch. That was somewhat of a polarizing decision on this board at the time. But the Rangers definitely made the best decision.

Great player and also seemed like a great teammate. He was one of the few guys that when I thought of the Rangers, he immediately came to mind. He become a strongpoint of the Rangers Identity.

I also remember when we used to contend for the playoffs on a yearly basis, we inserted Buch into the lineup in the quarterfinals. It was his first post-season. When the players walked back to the locker rooms, sometimes the broadcast would have a stationary camera that showed the players walk-in one by one into the rooms. Buch always had such a clueless smile on his face, as if, he was just so happy to be there.

I also think at times, he got a little more criticism than warranted a few years ago because of some slightly political/xenophobic dynamics but I do admit it got better over time and they weren't really an issue.

Obviously he was one of my favorite players on the Rangers. I hope he continues to play well and have fun, and that this aspect of hockey doesn't tarnish his prevailing image of the time he spent here.

Best American to wear a Rangers sweater since Brian Leetch. I’m gonna miss Buch a ton, and I really wish we could’ve found a way to keep him long-term in the summer of 2019

Was a fan of his from his draft year and thought he should have fetched more in trade, but the handwriting was on the wall as soon as we won the lottery in ‘19. Wish him nothing but success in the Western Conference.

Favorite moments: the tic tac toe goal with Mika and knocking Marchand to the ice.

I always loved the "American Buch" bit, because I remember the first time he really started to be on our radar as a potential top prospect was in the 2014 World Juniors where he stared down another one of our prospects (for the life of me I don't remember who) on the USA bench. It was seemingly this big unsportsmanlike deal. Knowing what we know now about his facial expressions, he might have been saying "good game" haha.
