Not saying that Buff's giveaway up the middle was excusable, but my god, Stuart's brain cramp on the PK at the end of regulation made that look brilliant by comparison.
You're on a PK, there are less than 20 seconds in the game, and you've got one of the strongest players in the NHL battling for the puck along the boards. Do you:
a) Let Byfuglien battle along the boards and at worst have Dallas regain possession while maintaining your PK responsibility in front of the net
OR
b) Wander aimlessly from the front of the net to lend support (lend support is being generous, more like flail your stick) while leaving Jamie Benn alone in front of goal for Ondrej Pavelec to contend with?
If you chose b), congrats! You're a borderline #6 NHL defenseman, but you at least add something in terms of shot blocking and "character".
Ok, I'm done being a sourpuss. Can't get too high with the wins, y'know?
