Just finished listening to the excellent "year end" interview with Maurice on H&L. http://www.tsn.ca/radio/winnipeg-1290/hustler-and-lawless-the-2016-coach-s-summit-with-paul-maurice-1.458477
I thought it was very interesting. As usual he was articulate, but he also had some interesting insights into the Jets strategy for the future. Of note, the die was cast to get younger some time ago, and crystallized last year. As he noted, the Jets core wasn't going to be playing at its peak for another 3 years when the youth would be ready to lead.
Some other tidbits:
He knows that the Jets style and identity will be changing to a faster, quicker and more talented team.
He thinks that Wheeler might be a fit for this team long term because he will "age well".
Seemed to leave open the possibility that Scheifele might be the captain.
Loves Ehlers' game and sees him as a dynamic talent.
Realizes that the goaltending isn't good enough, but also that the Jets leave them hanging out to dry to much. Made it clear that Pavs wasn't the #1 going forward, but also noted that they have tried to be careful in developing and bringing Hellebuyck along slowly.
Team is going to be young again next year.
Fire away!
