I have to give the man his due now. :handclap:

Just been fabulous this year. Very solid. Much improved. Nice to see him a little more aggressive with the puck also.

I wanted him gone in the worst way. But he really turned his game around.

Well, you're not alone in that regard.

Kudos to Martin for doing a complete 180! At times its hard to believe I'm watching the same player from last year. The man's stick work is filthy. :yo:

Its crazy. I have no idea what the hell was going on with him for the prior 2 years but the difference is night and day

Wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't been pushing himself as hard conditioning wise, and was maybe just content to float a bit out there after signing that contract. He's obviously re-dedicated himself to being a pro this year.

Paul Martin deserved trashed for two years. Good to see him step it up and (wait for it) get to his game, but nobody should feel bad about calling him out for how he played prior to this season.

Martin trashed himself last year and has lived up to his word (so far). Kudos to him!! I love how he's playing this year. He's a lot more physical. It only matters come playoff time.

I thought he was fine in his 1st year, last year he had an off year and thought he wasn't worth the money, he's playing awesome hockey right now. Good for Paul!

It was kind of hard defending Martin the past 2 seasons. I always defend the Pens players but Martin I couldn't even find excuses for him

This year he has been great, and we are going to need him to step it up even more come playoff time

I feel like he must have been injured through much of the last 2 seasons. Outside of his defense, his shot was so slow that you could read the NHL logo as the puck tumbled gingerly through the air. Now he is putting some very respectable velocity on his shots and the results speak for themselves in terms of goals and rebound opportunities that he creates.

Martin deserved all the abuse he got last year and more. No shame in cricitizing him. Hell the GM asked him if he wanted to be traded, and made that fact public (in a relatively private, "what's said by the team" culture). That's all you need to know about last year.

Eggs Martin has proven himself a master chef this season. Hopefully it continues into the playoffs and next year.

I only trashed him when we signed him, and last year. Ate crow after his first season when we played very defensive, and he excelled. Then he sucked hind tit last year. But seems to have found his game year.

I thought he was ok in his first year, not a 5 million dollar player but ok. Last year, yes he was awful and deserved to be criticized. This season he has been fantastic and deserves to be praised.

He has had such a great turnaround. I never thought I would be asking for him to be on the ice in place of Letang at any time, especially the PP .

His shot was that slow when he was with New Jersey. Unfortunately, he wasn't much of a true offensive player for us, although he was always good in the transition.

I liked Paul a lot, and although I wouldn't have wanted Lou to give him the contract he got, I'm glad he's turning his game around for you guys.

IMO, Martin has been handicapped with a very real liability since his first game as a Penguin.....Michalek. I always thought Martin was a great D-man according to advance stats during his Devils days. Not flashy, but very effective. We asked him to partner up with the equivalent of a small Hal Gill in Michalek and then take on the toughest assignments....in the Penguins D zone. Not really a situation to succeed IMO.

Martin struggled to excel with a partner that was content to play an entire shift in his own zone and with a partner lacking the skill to make effective passes out of it. These 2 types just did not ever gel.

Martin probably started getting down on himself along with some injuries and we have the 11/12 season that Martin put together. It was by far his worst season of his career. Now we see what a dedicated, focused, taking his role seriously, Martin can do without Michalek dragging him down. It's a pretty enjoyable result. Martin's turn around has been too large to be contributed to just 1 factor. It is a combination.

The defensive prowess doesn't surprise me that much, but what the hell did he do during the summer to improve his shooting this much. It seems like he never practiced it before and during the offseason thought "What the hell, lets try a slapshot and practice my wrister, can't get worse anyway."

I think that we both predicted a turnaround for him this year.

I just thought it would be on another team.

He is playing better than last year, but that is a very low standard to come from. I will await his playoffs before any accolades come from me. He shot is non existent. His physicality is decent stick work. But do you pay 5 millions for that. He is the equivalent of Mike Wallace, timing was there for him. I would trade his a** while one can.

Same boat here. HATED the dude last year and the year before. I wanted him traded more than anyone. He's proving himself now and I can officially say that I (currently) heart Paul Martin. He's been solid all year. Same with Eaton. I'm really liking our D corps right now.
