So what you're saying is truculence? This dude was a perpetual plug that either barely played 4th line minutes or was scratched because he's a liability. A dime a dozen "toughness" player. You already have Engelland and Ferland, how many more do you need? Also no one would have picked up Bollig, if you're trying to sneak a guy through waivers you go that no one will pick up.
Except Ferland hadn't done **** yet. It was Bollig, Engelland and Bouma at that point in time. He was less of a liability than Byron would have been playing injured. The problem came from the fact we had 3 goalies and couldn't afford to use a roster spot on an injured player

Ferland played in the regular season and playoffs, where he was running over everything in the Van series lol. And Byron hobbled would be a million times better than letting Bollig play, the guy was atrocious. You look at his underlying numbers and wonder how a guy can be so bad.

It was a gamble and mistake and Cal almost got away with it. It happens and happy the Habs lucked out and no one grabbed him before us.

But I still see it as a loss for Calgary. Byron is the type of player every team needs. Speed to burn, heart and character as well. Plays above his size and isn't afraid to get physical. I have a feeling he will add playoff warrior to his resume come this summer.

And Calgary fans you might be able to convince Byron to bring the cup to town you never know :naughty::naughty:

 Someone's cashing some cheques already.

It simply was a gamble; it's really not Treliving's fault that Kassian was a mess of a human being at that time. Byron is a good energy guy; Calgary had to protect Ortio (hindsight is 20/20) and they got caught. It happens.

35 games for Ferland, regular season and playoffs combined and let's be honest Ferland was only as effective as he was against the Canucks was because of that caveman Bieksa, against a smarter and more mobile team in Anaheim he was useless.

and no Byron injured was not better than Bollig, the pre-season and training camp was proof of that.

Nice thread tho! Always refreshing to see MTL fans who feel so high and mighty during the regular season!

Player A is waived by Team B

Player A outscores every single player on Team B almost half way through season.

This is a threadworthy, unusual situation, and if you really are so upset maybe you shouldn't go online at all.

I didn't say anything bad about the Flames, and didn't pump up the Habs, but your post just shows how sensitive kids are these days.

You're talking about Brandon Bollig here, not a decent player...a guy who's been a perpetual plug and have shown himself to be awful, he isn't even a good fighter. Ferland was already miles more useful in toughness or otherwise. Bollig has never display any more usefulness. Byron the previous season score more points in less games than Bollig's best season. There was no good justification in that call and Flames fans knew it. Nobody would want Bollig. It's not like letting go a superstar, but it was a bad call from the start.

The poster did say MTL was going to win the Cup, even if sarcastically lol

He has been one of our best players since we picked him up. I don't know why he was waived in the first place.

What are some other examples of guys who we're waived by a team only to prove they actually had it?

Uh....does Martin St. Louis count?

Y'know, the kid Calgary waived?

Pretty sure he proved he "had it" as well.

Daniel Brière, Jason Pominville...

You want another example of a waiver pickup that goes on to excel? How about the Habs waiving Dubnyk? Maybe had they had him last year the team might have made the playoffs.

Great example, except Montreal didn't waive Dubnyk.

They acquired him - for nothing - via trade then he left the organization as a free agent that summer.
