Patriots/NFL Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel, a franchise Hall of Famer, as head coach

I sincerely hope that Vrabel got a contract with him having some strong say regarding the coaching staff and more importantly the drafts, free agents and player trades. Without these points in his contract he will go the way of Mayo only difference will be he will get two years. VRABEL CAN NOT ALLOW Eliot Wolf to run the show. Good luck Mike, you will need it, considering you will be working for the Krafts.

He also was in the worst division in the NFL for his entire 6 year tenure.

The top 2 QBs in his division that he went up against was 1 year of Andrew luck and 1 year of late 30s Phillip rivers.

Still only managed a 54-45 record.

With Tannehill much of the time…..I’m amazed he won that many games.

Drake Maye got engaged to his long time girlfriend. They started dating in 7th grade I believe.

Sports radio owe him an apology for raking him through the coals for not being at Vrabel's presser.
Sports radio or specifically Felger? Felger has his schtick. He intentionally goes after guys during slow news days. I doubt he truly feels that way. It’s how he stays relevant. Pay him no mind.

I usually enjoy the antagonizing fanboys angle but this one just made no sense. NFL players plan around their offseason and Drake Maye had no idea Mayo would be fired or when the organization would hire a coach. He could even facetime Vrabel for a few minutes and have the same impact as saying hi at a press conference.

Felger wasn't even trolling. He was/is a workaholic and thinks that's why he's successful, so he can't comprehend why everyone else isn't exactly like him. He can't understand why a guy might not change his plans to get engaged for a work reason. Can't process such an act.

I’m not quite sure I agree with this. Felger just gave up Sundays & Mondays on Comcast Sports. This is a guy who mails it in virtually from his cozy Nantucket home all summer long as opposed to being in Boston and commuting to the island on the weekends. Not exactly parallel comparison but he’s putting his personal life before work life at this time, so it isn’t that far fetched to suggest that he understands why Maye didn’t jet back to Foxboro. He’s gone on record admitting he enjoys playing the villain role and it helps get views.

Hmmmm.....Jones and Deion ---- what's the next thing that comes to mind? Shedeur?

Dak traded for a 1 (Minny?, Jets?, Carolina?).

That #1, Dallas' #1 (13) and their 2026 #1 or 2 to Arizona for this year's #1 overall and Dallas takes Shedeur?

I have to say, the difference in press conferences from Mayo to Vrabel is drastic.

Mayo spent his introductory press conference joking around and giving half answers.

Vrabel? All business.

I think that goes a long way.

Will it work out? Hopefully. But I have far more faith in Vrabel turning this around and having the team PREPARED and playing hard, even if the talent still isn't there.
Mayo by all accounts seems like a guy that is liked across the league, but he is just not HC material, more suited to linebackers coach something like that. Vrabel who was not my first choice is still miles better than Mayo.

He's like 30 years into his profession and rich. He can do his job from Nantucket for that reason.

But yesterday he cited that he was back at work 3 days after marrying Sarah Underwood.

One clarification. Him "giving up" Sports Sunday and then Monday nights on BST were not entirely his call. He has mentioned a couple times now but the sense I get is they are making some cuts and whatever pay cut he was gonna take for doing Sports Sunday wasn't worth it to him so he gave it up.

I definitely won’t question his work ethic. I do think his obsession with Maye showing up for Vrabel Introductory presser was overkill. Engagement or not, I’m not leaving a vacation for that

I took that as his wife “nudged him” to quit

I think Felger is trolling for entertainment often. But his weird "work above everything" thing has been something he's been consistent on for decades.

I cannot see Vrabel or any HC in the NFL not having a clause to say they hire their own staff.
Usually the GM or perhaps Kraft, has the final say in trades and the draft picks, but I agree with you Vrabel needs to have a voice in this, especially with Wolf's swing and miss in the 24 draft.
His knowledge of Pro Players and what to look for when scouting players is much needed.
