Value of: Patrik Laine

He was always getting traded by Montreal at next year's deadline, the goal was to rehab his value for a repeat of the Monahan trade. I think the misread by Hughes was thinking slow scoring wingers are coveted at the trade deadline, the market just won't be there.

The objectional aspect of Laine's public commentary in Winnipeg is when he complained about having to play on a line with Bryan Little. That rankled a number of Jets' players (I would imagine), along with fans and media. Little was the epitome of class about it, as usual.
I feel that whole thing stuck with some Jets players and the culture they are creating.

Every role matters and you play on whatever line with whatever people the coach says, contribute and help the team.

There has been a lot of line movement outside of the first one, due to injuries and everyone is ready to jump in - regardless of of you are moving up or down the line up.

That whole thing was terrible. Little was beloved in the locker room.

Laine is definitely in a crossroads in many ways. To me it looks like he is merely playing hockey as a job at the moment, and not living and breathing it. Lack of motivation is most likely happening. Which in turn affects his training, focus, work ethic, his whole game.

The worst part is next game he will fly around the ice - give max effort. Score 2 goals. Drive play and you’ll love him again. He’ll show up for a few more games after that. Then disappear for 8 games.

Such wild ups and downs. If he could just get consistent he would be a top ten talent in the league.
I didn't want to turn on him given the mental issues, but there is only so much deliberate lazy ass play one can stomach.

He just doesn't give a damn....and I wont either.

The habs definitely won't pay a first to get ride of Laine and they will not replace MSL. If he's not behind the bench next year, it will be by his own decision
Opinions differ. Mine is that Hutson sped up the rebuild. He’s that good. The players know they can win if everyone plays the right way. That means Laine needs to go so the club can move forward. During the transom from rebuild to compete clubs often change the coach.

I was hoping for a Laine comeback in Montreal, he was loved by fans in Winnipeg.
Even in his first years, he couldn't protect the puck worth a damn, trying risky offensive zone plays that looked beautiful in the 1 out of 10 times they were not direct turnovers!

I really do not think any team would pick him up if he were waived before the trade deadline.
He could get all the ice time he wants in Laval!

I don't think Laine likes hockey, he's just good at it.
