Patrik Laine's left knee suffered a lot last night in the training game against Toronto, when the Finn collided with Cedric Pare on the blue line.- It looked pretty bad, orthopedic specialist Lasse Lempainen says directly.- Based on the video, Laine's knee bent strongly to the inside, but it seemed that it also bent over and twisted. It is probably an injury to the inner collateral ligament, but there is probably something else, the top surgeon continues. If Laine survives with a start, and it is only an injury to the inner collateral ligament, the winger could be fit to play in 6–8 weeks.- But there was so much speed and energy in the situation that I assume it is a more difficult injury. It is probably also a cruciate ligament injury. What is the recovery prognosis for an anterior cruciate ligament injury?- If it's only an anterior cruciate ligament injury and a lateral ligament injury, and nothing else, the recovery time for a hockey player of that level could be 8-9 months, but there could be an additional, for example, spiral injury, says Lempainen.8-9 months old Huili would practically know that Laine's season would be over before it even started. The NHL Regular Season ends on April 17, 2025.Finally, Lempainen reminds that his analysis is only based on the video image.- These are just estimates. Magnetic resonance imaging shows what has happened to the knee, but it looks like a serious knee injury.

Yep.

Even if he was only slated for ~6 months, what's it worth bringing him in when the team will likely be bottom 5-7 in the league at that point? May as well keep him out the season.

What sucks is that he'd have missed almost 2 entire seasons at that point with 1 year left on his contract..

At that point reps for Laine

It could be career defining decision, he can’t afford to miss a full season and be out of the game for 2 years and try to make a comeback to the top

Intentional or not, a scrub with no hope of making nhl simply does not have the skill to react to talent and so ends up injuring people. Everyone who has ever played sports against people who can't keep up knows what this means. They are literally the most dangerous people out there. He could have accepted he was beat but instead attempted a high risk play in a meangingless game. So yeah, its entirely his fault. He caused a star player to get a major injury by virtue of being a shitty player with no self-awarness about his limits and role in such a game.
Totally agree. It reminds me of when I took a Tae Kwon Do class in college. I was sparring with another dude who was much better than me. In an act of desperation to defend myself (and not fully knowing what the result could be), I kicked my leg forward at the same time he did a jump kick, and he landed straight onto my leg... Needless to say he spent the next few minutes rolling on the ground with his hands between his legs. Poor guy... So yes, beginners are indeed dangerous!

I thought the issue with knee injuries is that you can’t get a good diagnosis until the swelling subsides
Any injuries really. Last year it took a few days for Dach because the swelling wasn't going away. We will know tomorrow if they managed to get a MRI for Laine.

Nowhere land
This team must have an injury avoid control unit of experts working full time with the coaching staff and second floor. They have to be smarter with injuries you know. We saw that movie before you know heh. This Hab team have been among the worst nhl teams with injuries.

Pretty sure it was accidental. It sucks, a lot. But I'm gonna fault the NHL for having meaningless games where stuff like this can happen due to the greater number of scrubs playing.

And it's gonna get worse with the next expansion.

Edit: just saw the previous post about his knee history. This is definitely bordering on career ending injury. Can only reconstruct your knee so many times...
When was last time a hab suffered a career ending injury? Was it Lang?

what was exactly the accidental part between Pare extending his knee towards Laine and impact? 😂

Reflex more than some Machiavellian scheme.
Plug miss his check and will get walked, extend his knee to block because he is plug without any other attribute than that to salvage the original check he missed.

I will say, hockey fans as a whole are f***ing hypocrites. The amount of Leafs fans calling us whiners, considering that a clean hockey play etc...

Could you f***ing imagine the reaction had that been Lucas Condotta and Auston Matthews?

Im eagerly waiting it

I'm still mad as f*** this morning. Paré's smiling after the game says a lot about what kind of scum he is. I do love that Xhekaj jumped him, about time we have an angry guy like that.

Still, when piece of shits blatantly injure a player like Paré did, there should be penalties and consequences for the entire organization. This bullshit is unacceptable.

And stop playing regulars in pre-season games like the NFL. It has to stop.
He should be suspended for as long as the player he injured is out. In this instance he is just a scrub, so wouldn’t matter much, but strip his pay for the duration as well.

I said exactly that in a separate thread that I started. As it stands, they don't seem to have a far-reaching plan.

And here we are. Bites us in the butt.

Dach last year, Reinbacher, and Laine is an absolute kick in the nuts. Hopefully there’s a turn of direction soon.

how about defending your teammates, everyone other than player named Arber Xhekaj should take deep look here, this happens frequently because its not stopped, Im deeply saddened that smirking pos is still walking (or his mom)

He could have gone for a proper upper body check. Fine. Deck Laine. Instead he sticks his knee in. A Habs player said this crossing the line play happens all the time. With no damage. Insinuating that pare fd up bad. Pare will never play an nhl game after this.
Pare definitely didn’t help himself with that for sure.

I still love the move but I do have concerns about adding another guy with such an intense injury history. Like Dach and Drouin, you just never know if he will be available to play when you need him most. Another RHS too.

Can't complain about the price we paid, a good gamble, just not certain it will work out.

I don’t think it seems to matter who’s there for support. Just a glass team
