Some quotes:

“I’m excited about the season, especially with the Patrik Laine trade,” Slafkovsky said at the NHL European Player Media Tour on Wednesday. “It’s funny, during the summer you wonder how things are going to be throughout the year and who you’re going to play with and what your role is going to be, and I pretty much can’t wait to be there already and play.

“I wish we would could skip training camp and just start the season, because I’m excited to play games that mean something.”

Renberg 6'2 - 235
Lindros 6'4 - 240
LeClair 6'3 - 225
The line had a 6'3 avg height & 233.3 avg weight

Laine - 6'5 - 206
Dach - 6'4 - 217
Slaf 6'3 - 230
The line had a 6'4 avg height & 217.7 avg weight

They definitely don't have the weight (yet) We could call them the beanpole line

Lindros had more aggressiveness than the other 5 players combined.

I'd say the closest line to the Legion of Doom since the 90s was the Getzlaf & Perry combo with whoever they were playing in any given year, and they weren't even close.

Patrik Laine at his worst is one of the most frustrating players to watch you'll ever see. I don't think people realize how bad he can be.

...on the other hand, he's had some amazing stretches in his career as well. If he's really gotten better coping with his emotions, there's still so much potential. I know this sounds hyperbole but he might just have one of the best shots of all time. I feel stupid by saying that but I truly mean it. It's a shame he doesn't use it nearly as much as he should. He's a scoring threat from the blue line in. And I mean with a wrister.

Do you know who Jonathan Drouin is ?
Hell, have you seen Brendan Gallagher?
Anderson?
Armia?

Laine at his worst still better then them all.
Upside : possibly Laine at his best

The main issue is that Laine will try every dangerous pass and neutral zone move even if he is not performing at all, which leads to a lot of bad turnovers. The result is that even though he may be a better player, he has worse streaks of games than what you'll see those other guys play

He's gotta be top unit PP on the top of the left circle (Ovi's office). He just has a missile from there. Weber-esque.

Laine has the best shot in the league with Matthews , Ovechkin and Bedard.

Caufield a notch below them.

Laime has underrated hands as well and he is faster that it seems

I hope Slafkovsky doesn't lose his charm. His energy must be contagious on this team.

The fact that the trade cost was so low will help, and Montreal can be forgiving to frustrating players depending on the context. Drouin is an obvious example of the negative, but Kovalev was also an incredibly frustrating player to watch (other than the 1 in 4 games he decided to be a force of nature), and he was and is beloved in Montreal.

There’s so many potential line options now.

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Laine-Dach-Armia
Roy-Newhook-Gallagher

That’s a pretty balanced top-9 for next year. Then enter Demidov the follow year, w

Hes like a bus gaining speed. Nice wrist shot and can walk through the whole team .

Laine is 215 but you aren't wrong in principle. Still a line with an average size of 6'4, 220lbs is great too.

Hughes makin my life like a viagra commercial, need to call a doctor for erection lasting more than 8 hours.
This comment wasn’t on my bingo card

He averaged practically a PPG during his entire time in CLB and his time in WPG was definitely nothing to sneeze. Add to the fact that we’re finding out the truth to his issues as of late, this guy isn’t Patches and super streaky. In our environment he will thrive. His press release said a lot about where he’s at.

Fair

But I don't know why we would expect him to be anything other than what he's always been.

I wish I could hop in a time machine, go on the main board and post Harris for Laine +2nd just to see the responses
No doubt Harris for Laine is a very good trade, even at even up, since it is a chance to get a possible star for virtually nothing. My wonder is which Laine will show up, the one from years ago or the one from last year. That Laine's contract finishes in two years is the plus for me. Even though spending $8.7M on a true well proven now bona fide star would be a sure thing, it's maybe not needed right now. As is, just adding Laine is not enough to make a valid playoff team. Spending that $8.7M is using up cap space now when Hughes has cap space to use. (Just money out of Geoff's pocket.) In two years, when the team is probably better, Hughes can then reassess what he wants and not have an albatross contract hanging over his head.

I could be wrong and maybe trying hard to not be a homer but I feel like it's not quite on Matthews and Ovi's level.

I will fold like a tent with anyone who thinks I'm wrong though lol. I don't think I'd ever want Matthews on my team but his shot is absolutely unreal. Laine's looks awesome but not quite as godly as Matthews' and Ovi's.

Anyone else watching Laine highlights ? Guy is so skilled. He has that Suzuki powerful stride. Such a talented player, it's crazy. We just have to hope Slaf, Laine and Dach stay healthy. Didn't the team have an absurd amount of 1 goal games ? We those three healthy and developing, it could make all the difference. I watched a lot of eastern conference hockey and those last playoff teams were so damn bad.
Don't watch highlights. I remember watching highlights of Semin. Dude there is a world of difference between highlights and what the player willl bring on the ice. Wanna another example? When we saw the highlights of Jonathan Drouin. Nuff said!

Good seing you!

I wasn’t aware (before the trade) that there was some drama in the past with Laine vs Matthews, saw a flurry of insecure Toronto posts in the last day, should make those games more enjoyable

Absolutelyyyyy
