Don't want him back too soon personally , with his history and OUR history let's make sure he's 110% before he starts playing in traffic again....

Still great news that things are going well for him
If you look at his injury history in Columbus, whether it was from an elbow injury or an ankle injury, he always came back earlier than expected. And no injuries with us have ever been repeated. So I won't be surprised if he starts in the game against us on 11/27 in Columbus.

I'd say this has pretty much always been the case with him, he comes back early. And it also shows for the first few games. I remember we were all saying he came back too soon last season from the concussion because he was struggling in the first games back, and he was just coming back to his own when the shoulder injury happened.

If he was still a CBJ player, I would prefer his start only in middle December.

Zegras has turned into Pat Falloon, let's not give Kent any ideas.

Guy is a clown. Doesn’t seem to have the greatest attitude

So it appears, a slight case of Yakupov syndrome I guess. Seriously though Carlsson is also ass right now, they need to do something at some point.
Anyhoo.. let's hope Laine can get it going again or we will be in the same boat and at a higher pricepoint lol

If Laine can come in and play the remainder of the season at a .75 PPG pace (ie. 60 per 82 game clip), it will have a huge impact on our top two lines.

Losing him before the season started took that soft breeze we had in our sails away. We are firmly in the doldrums at this point. The only place to go is beyond the horizon.

Ahoy matey.

I think it's extremely optimistic to expect that kind of pace. He looked like he needed a lot of time to get readjusted to the NHL pace based on preseason, and now he's ever further behind.

Laine got to carry this whole team on his back... he's got to!! He's the golden goose that's going to bring us out of the basement.

His career average is about .8. I think he can get back to that, but agreed, it may be a little optimistic after so much time off.

Honestly surprise he is even skating, and even more that he seem so comfortable on the ice. But I don’t want to see him rush back all we need of him to get back after Christmas and avg .5ppg maybe have a little progression to .6-.7ppg toward the end of the year just so he can end on a very positive note have a great off season and maybe go back to be close to .8-1ppg next year.

We need momentum from Laine, Demidov maybe even a UFA to really change or a little luck in the lottery to really change the trajectory.

Nah he simply needs to make that 2nd line & 2nd PP unit viable NHL “threats”, taking some opponent coverage pressure off the Suzuki line

Patrik Laine said reasons why he had to go through the NHL/NHLPA program etc. Finnish, I recommend Deepl.com for translate. If it translated right, I think that was really big problems, that could have ended his career.

I'm not Finnish, so I can't translate it well. So I'll just copy the part where he talks about his mental problems.

Lopulta Laine hakeutui NHL:n hoito-ohjelmaan mielenterveysongelmiensa takia tammikuun 2024 lopussa.

– Sitten henkiset ongelmat alkoivat vaikuttaa kaikkeen.

Translated:

Just before his knee injury and his return to the rink in Montreal, Laine had gone through a rough patch of injuries and mental health problems.

He was naturally excited about his new platform in Montreal.

Laine had been struggling in deep waters for a long time. Due to various injuries, he had already been sidelined for more than 120 NHL games over the previous four seasons.

In 2021-2023, Laine scored 108 (48+60) points in 111 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Although the points were coming in, not everything was in order.

The mind was not feeling well. There were several reasons for that.

Eventually, Laine sought NHL treatment for his mental health problems at the end of January 2024. The last time he played in an NHL game was on 14 December 2023.

- Alamäki left a few years ago when my father died. After that, all kinds of sleep problems started. I couldn't sleep and I got tired. On top of that, there were injuries and other things," Laine says.

- Then the mental problems started to affect everything. I couldn't do my work, which meant I couldn't play. Then it affected my relationships. I had no joy in anything I did.

At the beginning of last season, Laine played 18 games for Columbus, but then injuries kept him sidelined again.

The Finn still returned to the rink, but a wall had come up.

- There were a couple of injuries right at the beginning of the season and then it started to get pretty depressing. Then, when I was just about to get back into the game, I suddenly felt like I couldn't do it anymore.
