To Vancouver : Patrik Laine (8.7 AAV until 2026)

To Montreal : Dakota Joshua (3.25 AAV until 2028)

With J.T. Miller’s departure a few months ago and Brock Boeser leaving this summer, the Canucks will need players in their top six who can score goals. Patrik Laine is one of the best snipers in the league. He comes with his flaws, but when it comes to scoring—especially on the power play—he gets the job done. The Canadiens would likely prefer to find another solution for their second line, and by trading Laine, they’d have more cap space to do so. I understand that Dakota Joshua is a valued bottom-six player in Vancouver, but he’s more easily replaceable than a player who can score 30 to 40 goals.

Laine and Pettersson together.

Could be something, maybe, I guess?

Laine doesn’t play with half the balls that Joshua does. Vancouver would be stupid to make that deal. Laine (with 50% retention) for Chityl makes more sense.

I don't pay attention to Montreal and i could care less about their players. It wasn't a shot against Montreal, i legit forgot about Laine

Cool story, bro.

What's the point in coming into a "value of Laine" thread to embarrass yourself by saying you can't remember a guy who made league wide headlines multiple times this season?

If a team wants Laine on their team, the Habs certainly won't spend assets to make it happen. 1 year left on his contract, he's fine he can stay here we don't care. He's fun on the PP.

He hasn't been a cancer and didn't stir up any kind of controversy in Montreal. By all accounts he seems really happy here and doesn't butt heads with the other guys. His salary is too high for the super specialist that he is, but it's fine for 1 more year.

Of course. Imo the Habs, who don’t even want Laine at camp, should waive his ass and send him to the A.
I don't think anyone really feels that strongly either way about him. He's an alright depth piece. Certainly doesn't deserve being run out of town lol.

Habs don’t even want this guy in their camp, no? Clearly it’s either the Habs add a lot of sugar, retain and add, or waive and send his worthless add to the A.,imo that means Laine is in the A.,
