Answering questions honestly, can definitely get a guy in trouble.
Just answer the questions like a politician and everyone is happy then.

When a player wants out of a certain city, that city of fans gets a whine on, you can't stop it from happening.
Scoring 8 goals in 10 games, says to me, that we all hope Laine wants to stay in Montreal.
I think it’s very premature to say we want him to stay. We knew he had problems when he came here. Injuries: He was injured 5 seconds into the preseason and missed three months. Attitude and maturity: the whole Columbus situation was bizarre and kind of displayed some of the character flaws we had heard about. We got him for nothing for a reason. It’s up to him to show he’s worth committing to long term. He isn’t there yet.

this situation reminded me of eller talking shit of edmonton before playing them many years ago. obviously we lost that one
And when Eller vs Bruins, he's dumb enough to do dumb things like that. I guess he learned by then (probably had a meeting) cuz he stopped doing that.

Laine didn't had his meeting with Chantale I guess. And now other teams knows what to do with Laine.

Having watched the various videos because I missed the beginning of the game, I saw two main things.

Laine tried to hit Voronkov who is a rather large gentleman. Voronkov was skating back toward his own net at the time. I don’t know why Laine did that unless he was trying to look tough. Seems like a bad decision by Laine.

Dante Fabbro and Laine were hitting each other with their sticks. Fabbro cross checked Laine. Laine elbowed Fabbro. This is interesting because Fabbro never played with Laine. A lot of the physicality seemed to be the result of Laine setting up in front of the goal and the defenseman trying to get Laine to not screen the goalie.

I watched the last 25 minutes or so of the game live. It looked like a game between two bad, young hockey teams. It didn’t seem like there was any bad blood between the teams. It certainly did not have the feel of a game where one team had been taking cheap shots against the other. I have seen rougher hockey from 14 and 15 year olds than anything I saw in videos from the CBJ-Montreal game.

If Montreal can get Laine at a bargain price because he tends to run his mouth at other teams, I'd consider that a good deal. The injuries are the bigger concern.

Anyway, I didn't think it got that physical in there, Laine can be a bit of a pest himself on the ice in order to create space, and he definitely plays the antagonist by trash-talking. I just think he got hit a bit awkwardly and they didn't want to take a chance by putting him back out there.

The dude is obviously not 100% and his conditioning is questionable in a game that gets physical. When you run out of gas, the chance of injury gets even higher.

Then you weren’t watching the game. It was blatantly obvious… they finished every hit they could when Laine had the puck.
With respect guys finishing their hits doesn’t stick out when I watcha game. And again, the biggest hit attemped was by Laine.

I hear the goalie was so angry by the comments he was trying to make saves. That really caught my eye.

Everyone already hates the Habs and try to bury us in bad faith takes and double standards, so who gives a shit about what the league thinks. There's lots of desperation trying to pretend he didn't speak truth. If his quotes were baseless they would've have hurt CLB so badly. We're ski doesn't have to like it, but it's evident he doesn't because Laine called out a loser franchise.

Now imagine if Laine said that about Montreal, how quickly the media would side with him and treat him like a victim lol.

Laine is brutally honest and runs his mouth a bit, but he's not a liar lmao. As long as he brings it like he has, he's backing up his words and I have no issue. Let the haters hate

Laine was out of line if his words could be interpreted as all his past teammates quit midseason.
I hope he's not injured. That would suck.

I didn't see the game. It seems like Xhekaj should have fought Olivier when the Jackets were targeting Laine to show some push back. Why didn't he? Did Olivier's performance last time they fought deter him?

I agree he shouldn't have said it, but the double standard old boys club is offended and I can't help but laugh

Injured because of a knee. Not exactly “problems”.

Same with Kariya and Lindros i guess then? They sucked because someone hurt them into injury? What a dumb take.

Classic Habs, dating back long ago - masters at missing opportunities to shut the f*** up when the occasion arises. For those of us around back in the '81 series against Edmonton, who could forget Richard Sévigny predicting Lafleur would put Gretzky in his back pocket? Good times then too. Oh well, I guess every generation was to live and learn for itself <sigh>

You think that's why the Oilers won?

For all I know, Laine is not Mark Messier. First Messier would not said that with these words. And secondly if Messier says something, he can back up with solid delivery at the game. And it wasn't a question mark with him.
Laine is not a leader or a saviour. He's a complementary player, a luxury one, who is not a full grown adult and he can get injured often. We didn't got him free for nothing. HuGo have to be smart enough to turn him into our advantage.

Personally I don't care what the rest of the league thinks. I do care about handing extra motivation to another team on a silver platter though. That is the crux of the issue here imo. Things were going well for him and the team. Columbus was a beatable team before the break with Habs going into a real tough stretch after the break. He put himself before the team. Maybe not deliberately, but he did. And looking at the way Columbus came out flying it was obvious they were "extra" motivated. That is the issue I'm having a hard time with. Love the story, love the player, but I didn't like the Hellebuyck comments, I hated the Columbus comments and hated the timing of both. To top things off he leaves the game, gets injured after the 1st. Just not a good look all around, and ended up hurting his team.

Hopes he comes back soon and thrives in Montreal.

Saying publicly what he said is a lack of judgment, but I would no overanalyze this either. Does not mean he is selfish or he tried to put himself first.

And I surely can’t blame him for thinking that. I’m sure many players around the league trash talk in private about their former team (like people with a former employer when things don’t work).
