Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

Those 5 minutes are bigger than you think. It's 5vs5 minutes where an entire line is rolled, and your linemates get more minutes because they also play PK. That line has a specific role and removing that player for Laine disrupts the entire strategy.
No, they're not, you're amplifying their value to make your point.

I haven't seen a single Habs fan after Kapanen goes on the ice say

"man, what a huge shift that was".

You don't want Laine to play because you're convinced he's a walking turnover, OK...

But don't piss in the wind and tell me it's just rain lol

We will agree to disagree. I'm not amplifying my point and in fact, you state clearly yourself why I think Kapanen is a better option: Laine is a walking turnover machine, and he was clearly making the PP less good. If you dress Laine over Kapanen for mere minutes of second wave PP, that PP will still suck, and you remove the possibility of rolling 4 lines especially in the first 2 periods, which gives more energy at the end of the game.

Or it might score a goal., you know what's DEFINITELY not happening? Kapanen scoring a goal on the PP, because he won't be on it lol.

But fair enough. I really didn't think my comment would ruffle so many feathers lol

I just hope they win, whether that with or without Laine.

All this trepidation about this player from the media and the fans I don't see how they could play him,but I'm a fan and not part of the team. Maybe spot duty at the most opportune time, don't know

If Kapanen scores tonight, I'm sending you a wink 😜

Do you guys think there is any chance that MSL won't but best possible line up on the ice. If Laine is in the line up it's best solution in that situation.

Given that Petry and Allen's retention slots are freed up this offseason, I wonder if the habs would be willing to use it on Laine to send him somewhere. I assume Evans fills in for Dvorak, they get a 2C somewhere (probably include Dach in the trade) and have a 4th line with a few rookies on it. If that ends up happening, stapling Laine to the rookies is pretty risky.

Luckily he is out so we don't have to have someone actively sinking our team every time they step on the ice.
Imagine if some people criticized Slafkvosky with the venom this guy shits on Laine and other players he actively didn’t want the Habs to acquire. It’s all partisan trench warfare for some people and it’s inexplicable.

Not even pretending to root for the Habs.

I think they are willing, as I am, to give Laine an off-season and see what he does fully healthy. His contract expires next year anyway and I doubt there's many buyers out there for Laine even with retention based on his play this year. Not really in a situation where his salary is a drain on what we want/need to do.

He has struggled badly...........
Not sure I want him in the lineup....?
You falter or prosper with your best players, to me, if he’s healthy, he’s in no question.

He’s struggled due to injury, explains the lack of effectiveness. I’m sure he’s itching to get back in to make a difference. I just want to see a game 6 lol

Disrupts?

We talking about 7 shifts in the game, plus they 4th line guys that see guys coming in and out all year, I doubt they become discombobulated because Laine slots in.

Plus Laine gives you a real threat on that second waive of the PP, especially if he’s back healthy

I like Kapanen but I’m going Laine 100% if gtg

Thing is, Laine can score or not, but will almost surely do shit plays and try shit passes that'll end up in turnovers.

Kapanen do squat but he's no liability.

He Laine shit the bed tonight I wonder if they'll be patient and see if he can heal both physically and mentally for the next season.

Statistically, Laine has no turnovers or take aways but he does have 4 hits and 1 blocked shot with 15 shot attempts and 6 on target……Kapanen stat line in this regard is 0’s across the board, he makes nothing happen right now.

We need to play to win, not to not lose

I’m curious to know when the end of season comes, what, if any injuries Laine had to play through.
Is he completely banged up, or is he just not interested?
If we learn that he never fully recovered from his knee injury and aggravated it during the playoffs + other booboos, are you confident going forward with him next year in your top 6 ?
In that case, I would be ok with his lacklustre play towards the end of the year, but if we learn he was healthy, we have our new Patioready, and I want him gone.

If Laine played and Kapanen didn't, Newhook would have to play center.

Oh, and it looks like Patrik is in trouble and could be bought out this summer. The problem is probably not just injuries.

Yeah I remember him itching to play in the playoffs.. he even said that the regular season is one thing but he turns the switch on for the playoffs.

Then he proceeds to give away the game in Overtime because he doesn't want to take a hit to get the puck out.

Dude sucks this year.

Permanent brace on his knee, 2 surgeries and one season ending surgery plus a purple hand... Id say hes banged up.

While they are more informed and apt than most posters, coaches aren't right 100% of the time. Hard to say.
