Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

We all do that. People's observations of the same thing can be vastly different. Especially depending on how capable they are from separating emotions from fact.

I'm pretty confident in my ability to analyze data and identify issues, that's how I have made a living.

I have no reason to be nearly as confident in your abilities, as I have seen your reports and they are emotional outbursts and pathetic attempts to justify them when questioned

So don't refer to your eye test. Mine is better
Strange that no one agrees with you. I bet even Laine would admit he’s stinking up the joint.

Regardless you are entitled to your opinion even if its wrong. I hope you see an optometrist soon. Or a doctor that can prescribe something that will open your eyes. lol

Laine has the ability to look like an elite nhl sniper one shift, then he will have you double taking on the next shift wondering how Pierre dagenais is still in the league.

Even on the shifts where he one times the puck into the net he often looked bad for the rest of the shift. The guy is a turnover machine and either loses almost every puck battle or avoids them entirely. I honestly can't stand the sight of him anymore. Hopefully he finds another gear in the playoffs and that carries into next season.

Just ignore him......his posts are dripping with bias without any sightings of objectivity whatsoever. Claims that he is not emotionally driven yet almost exclusively posts about Laine who he openly admits to have closely followed and adored from the moment he was drafted lol.

I follow hockey in general. Yeah, I like Laine because of his talent and the personality. What's wrong with that?

I don't grade him on a curve like his haters do.

That's why I demand statistical evidence over a haters "eye test". I trust factual information, not someone's negative vision based on vibes

Vibes ppl can F O. I'm a rational person

The only reason there is no point in arguing is because you just ignore reality and make nothing but excuses.

It's as broken as a record can get, and it just keeps playing year after year. Same agenda since 16-17 season. Three different teams, five different head coaches, and there's no sign whatsoever that there would be an attempt to analyze Laine playing. It's just about his superiority and mistreatment year after year.

I applaud you for choosing the appropriate username!

Why then when you get statistical evidence like a terrible plus/minus compared to his peers and one of the lowest Corsi % (43%) on the team 5 on 5, you ignore?

You claim to be analytical yet once presented with evidence you have nothing to add other than “that stat sucks”. lol

You are the only one defending Laine’s putrid performance. Something is not right about you…

You didn't present the comparison to the linemates with or without. We all know why.

You presented your interpretation. Nothing that I asked for.

And then you said "corsi" how you interpret that and wanted me to accept that proves your point?

I'm an old dude, mind tricks don't work. Bring something tangible, meaningful.

There's been many who disagree with what you argue, they just don't bother to correct your nonsense as much as I do.

You should know how awful your argument is when you have to dodge the relevant stats comparisons and start arguing "crowd size" basically. We know that type, they're in style now unfortunately. That's where the shameless lie repeating comes from too, monkey see monkey do. If it works for leaders, weaklings emulate.

It's not going to work on thinking people but that's not who you want to convince anyway. You're an appealer to feewings. "Accept what I see or else...". Buahaha

Might be better to engage with other like (hive) minded individuals and leave me out of it?

If you don’t understand the stats, thats on you. I don’t have time to educate an old dog who is incapable of learning and is blind!

Laine cracks me up in his interviews.

Reporter: How does it feel to play against Ovechkin in the playoffs, someone you watched when you were young and idolized.
Laine: It doesn't matter. I couldn't care less.

Also of note in this interview he says he understands why he hasn't been playing much in the 3rd period in favor of more reliable guys, when trying to win games.

Ga60 vs Gf60 is kinda it for me. I value efficiency. Corsi is not about it.

If you want to explain why that particular stat is so important and indicative of effective play, I'm all ears.

Just saying "you don't get it" doesn't fly. Explain why I should care about that stat? What does it measure, how does he compare to his linemates?

He has learned not to speak his mind of his usage.

I don't know how to feel about that change. Could call it maturity, could call it giving in

Looks like a pretty good teammate from what I can see.

Probably maturity
I can’t imagine at 26 years old or whatever he is, that he thinks he’s the best player on this team.

I think, or at least like to think that he knows and embraces his niche on the team

It's probably that even Laine can see what a disaster he is outside of the PP. Maybe you should set him straight and that it's everyone else's fault he doesn't get played in the 3rd.

I've never considered or argued for him being a defensive forward.

You could play him more in the first 2 periods if your intention is to shut it down in 3rd. Get more headway.

Definitely maturity, after watching the clip. He's not disagreeing when he says it. He is bought in.

Right now it must be full of adrenaline, besides, the PO is the best opportunity to show his qualities. It must be a huge challenge for him. So we will see how much the injury will affect his play but if he continue more of this:

it will be great for you.

This is exactly why I can't let these guys get away with the "worst 5 on 5 player in the league " or "AHL level". There are very few wingers in this team being defensively better.

Thank you for finding the clip, nobody ever captures highlights of Laine playing defense but it definitely exists. Haters ignore it.

He's done impressive defensive moves lately, above video as evidence. This isn't the only one, there's been more of this.

"Liability " my ass, I referred to this exact sequence in one of my posts.

Perhaps.

I think more likely it's a reflection of the environment management & the coaching staff has created.

Communication, consistency & clarity with players has been hallmarks of their approach, and while that doesn't mean players won't disagree with various decisions, it does go a long way to reducing how disgruntled (especially publicly) players get.

Laine appears to be fully bought in, despite the lowest usage of his career & probably the first time ever that he's been on a team and give zero reps on the first line at ES (or zero time with the teams top C)

The only time he was in this situation was his rookie year in Liiga. 3rd line usage in regular season. Playoff MVP and record breaker in playoffs.
