Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

I don't see what the problem is at all. This is Demidov's first NHL game, so playing with players who don't have such problems at 5v5, since the opponent won't take into account that Laine can't use his left leg 100%, that goes for shooting as well. If Patrik plays well, MSL will move him.

There's also the matter of pace. Kirill Marchenko said that in the first few games he had problems with pace after just a few seconds. Putting him with Laine, who is not yet fit after his injury, without seeing how he plays first would be pretty strange.

Laines been playing much better, setting up Newhook left and right and what does he get? A trip to the fourth line lmao.

Has to be hard to get motivated playing for MSL as a skills only player with low pace.
The problem is that he is been also setting up opponents left and right, pretty much every games. Must be quite infuriating for the coach to be honest.

He has been playing 4th line minutes anyway so it's not much of a change.

Everyone knew that the 2nd line needed to be changed up.

Why is it Newhook, thats been missing chances at an all-time rate, the one that gets to play with Demidov, though?

This could all have been fixed by icing Demidov with Suzuki. Sigh.

Demidov gets the two least offensively potent players on the team, potentially the organisation.

He's been stuck with Newhook all year and they've never shown any chemistry together. One is slow AF who is most effective offensively when he's handling the puck less and focused on getting open to use his shot, while the other has a ton of speed but rarely uses his linemates and tries to beat 2-3 defenders on end to end rushes whenever he gets the puck.

The best option at this point is putting him with Evans and Heineman/Kapanen as they'll help defensively while still being able to create chances offensively.

It's mostly because Newhook is pretty harmless. He doesn't score anything, but he also doesn't concede much.

The coach obviously doesn't want to take any big risks considering how important it is to win the game.

Montreal has been a one line team throughout the season, the only objective for the other 3 lines is to not be a defensive disaster, which a Demidov-Laine line could be.

I can get behind that reasoning, Laine/Demidov would be a risky line, dont think Laine is as bad as some say he is but still.

Couldve made it a two line team with Cole/Slaf on another line, though.

It's hard to separate one of the best lines in the league.

Ill say this is a false equivalency. Its the best line in the league because Suzuki is on the line, not because of Slaf or Caufield. Slaf and Cole have 3 and 5 points in their last 10, while Suzuki has 13. (At EV).
Not bad actually.

He started off the game really well. He was engaged and was creating some scoring chances. He pulled off a great deke but decided to pass instead of shooting. He looked dangerous when paired with Demidov.

It all went downhill in the 2nd period when he did a turnover during the PP. He seemed to lose confidence afterwards. He kept losing his board battles and was just overall ineffective.

A lot can be forgiven if he’s on the scoreboard. Right now he’s not producing and there’s no excuses, he needs to be scoring. A shootout goal tonight would have helped change the evaluation of his game more in his favor.
