Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

He's playing like a 40 years old Lemieux but Lemieux was still pretty good at that age.

He looks like he's having fun playing for the Habs.

The guy's really hard to watch right now. Even on the pp, he's crap if he does something other than shooting.

What stood out for me recently is how bad he is with the puck at the blue line (offense). Thankfully it didn't results in breakaways, but I saw him mishandled the puck there, easily picked off, and everybody had to leave to zone.

He is useful but I'm not much impressed.

Maybe they can compare if Lemieux put his skates right now..
While I love those goal charts and no I didn't bother with the articles.
The assist totals were somehow lost in the shuffle?

Mario had a double dose of pure hockey processing power.
Twice the vision twice the number of assists while arguably making the players around him twice as good...

Laine also had an effect on the players around him and we can just leave that there.

I really didn't like Laine's game last night.
He was fortunate to not give up three breakaways trying to play Lane Hutson at the blue line. That was not playoff worthy hockey not even close.

He’s Mike Hoffman with a better shot at this point

Really, really bad player who is a complete liability at 5 on 5

Not winning much with a guy like this playing top 6 minutes
You're not winning much with any of our players not named Suzuki/Caufield/Slaf playing top 6 minutes. We need Laine on the PP. He is our 3rd goal scorer and he missed half the season. We need those goals.

Hoffman had 29 goals in 134 games for us. Laine has 19 in 45. That's nearly double the goalscoring pace.

It's hilarious seeing people coddle Dach nonstop who was the worst player in the league for like half a season because he missed a year but the same doesn't apply for Laine who's pacing at around 60 points in a year.

Literally wouldn't be anywhere near playoffs without him.

You have no clue what you're watching

Yes his PP goals are important

He is still an awful 5v5 player, not sure what the issue is here

Yes?? The same people who were the biggest Dach supporters are the biggest Laine haters?? Wth is the angle here.

He plays in a bad line. In a line that was worst in NHL before he joined it, and MTL was far from playoffs.

I only saw last period of last nights game, didn't see any Laine problems in that time, can't comment on periods 1 and 2 but they didn't score on Laine all game. Judging from your previous assessments like previous game where Laine was the 2nd best fwd in the team, you were saying he was awful.

So I don't trust your ability to be analytical and correct in your assessments, seems completely clouded by irrational hate.

I mean, you guys aren't even noticing his increased mobility, last two games he's been moving well both ways, often is 1st forward back on backchecks

He is a big part of the reason why his line is bad actually

You clearly can never admit anything critical about this player lmfao you seriously compared him to Mario Lemieux even

No he isn't. The line was the worst in NHL BEFORE he got in it.

Do you not get that simple fact? Time works that way. They were the worst, probably not worst anymore but still no good.

It has since seen Dach replaced with Roy and Heineman. AHL and rookie.

You have silly expectations if you think one player makes the worst line in the league I to a legit 2nd line.

Slaf was lost in that line too, but somehow can play 1st. Wonder why..

He’s improving. We’ll see what happens next year when he’s healthier with better linemates.

But you can’t ignore his work on the PP. Best PP performer in the league. I’m sure we’d have converted on some of those PPs without him but can we really say that we’d be in a playoff spot? I don’t think so.

He’s contributing and that’s what matters. I agree people are conflating 5 on 5 with overall - but it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme. Let’s just see how he plays next year. I’m hopeful we’ll see an improvement.

I agree with you entirely!

Just not sure why for some posters we have to pretend he is anything but horrible 5 on 5, he was horrible again last night
