Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

Roy is out pacing him as well playing with apparently the worse player to exist newhook. How does AHL Roy out produce super Star Golden god Laine?

So of course the conclusion from this adequate sample size should be that Roy IS a 2nd line NHL player and Laine is not.

Good job, I believe your assessments now.

It's not but it doesn't help at all. He's 21st in the league in the goal per game category (40 games min). The idea that some people think he loses all his goal scoring touch at 5 on 5 and would not be able to finish the chances a legit top 6 center would give him just because it would be at 5 on 5 is quite laughable to me. It's like a switch. Oh it's 5 on 5 me dumb Patrick Laine wont score even if this legit center pass me the puck. Oh now it's PP bit bit bit robot Patrick Laine will put his scoring machine switch back to on.

Also the "sure he can play well with good players against all star level competition in 4 nations but once he puts on the red jersey in the same rink, he would be useless with top tier players and a total liability, worse than an AHL callup".

Not a lot of logic going on with the "opposition". A lot of feelings.

Funny thing is in the goal per 60 at 5 on 5 category Roy is outpacing the entire team except for Caufield, Mailloux and Condotta. He is outpacing Suzuki.

Goals per 60 5 on 5

Caufield 1.37
Mailloux 1.13
Condotta 1.08
Roy 0.92

Small sample size

Incorrect again, the truth is Newhook is so bad he is also bad at stopping Roys true super star potential. Newhook is truly a great evil that plagues the team and is responsible for all the woes. We should look into him being a plant from Boston/Toronto/Rotenburg to hinder our rebuild.

You're clearly exaggerating, but not by much ;)

This is the way

I would love to keep him for our PP, but people pretending he’s a good 5v5 player and capable of playing top 6 minutes are lying
Then Laine's twin played in Columbus, otherwise I can't explain that he played well at 5v5, which is confirmed the extended stats. Including defense. 😏

You wrote that he can't play well 5v5. If he's healthy and physically prepared, he can. Now he are playing after health issues, maybe he still has them. Although, reading you now I see you don't care about it.
He used to be a decent 5v5 player and is no longer, not sure why you fanboys can’t admit this

Your arguments are incredibly stupid and bad faith.

I have nothing to say to you.
He has 4 ES goals through 46 games this year, but you want to talk about a 3 game stretch where he didn’t score once to say he’s a good 5v5 player

Talking about “bad faith” lmfao holy

What’s the point you’re trying to convey — Laine is an overrated bum? Okay, sure he is.

Do you think Hughes should get rid of him by any means necessary?

I don’t mean to be facetious but when a player is criticised usually it has to do with his hype or his performance and roster opportunities and competitors for ice time. I figure you don’t want him off the PP… so what do you want to happen that can happen?

Literally all I have said is he is not a good 5v5 player

I do not understand why these guys are getting so bent out of shape about it? I’ve said many times he should be signed if we can play him less 5v5 and use him on the PP

I buy it — and I wouldn’t say he’s a good ES player. Definitely not from what I’ve seen this season anyway.

Signing or not signing, we figure that out later. Hopefully he shows more athleticism next season and is therefore more impressive overall. I suspect he’ll always be a floater though, snipers often are.

As you can see in sashas posts above, some people actually believe that switch exists (and it's been turned off now since 4 nations and can never be turned back on again, he was a world class forward in feb, but will never be again)

It's so mind numbing and absurd. Like zero capacity for logic. But here we are.

Why do 3 games in Feb negate the other 46 games? Makes zero sense

3 games with 0 goals at that
