He's currently already at that pace. He would get bumped up to 40-50 goals pace if he had a #2 center.
Laine is scoring at a 36-goal/82 game pace currently

But I think he got off to a hot start. So since those first 10 games, I don't think he's scoring at that pace.

I would he ecstatic if next year he could score 36 over a whole 82 healthy games, playing with a really good 2c.

Laine has 5+7 in 11 games after 4 nations. And yes, I cherry picked that cut off date but its because Laine's game has been adequate/decent/good after 4 nations while it was poor/horrendous/awful the stretch before it.

If Laine were playing with a good setup man, skating issues aside, he would still score at a 30-40 goal pace because his shot is one of the best in the world.
If this was remotely true Laine would be on the first line with Suzuki, the fact is he's a disaster on 5v5 and kills plays non-stop. The way he's playing 5v5 he shouldn't even be on the second line but he will get the offseason to turn his game around.

I don't really know what you're watching. He's not flawless but his biggest blunders lately have been some backhand passes that have been intercepted in offensive zone and zone cleared. And there was a backcheck sticklift where he allowed a chance in the defensive zone. These happen to many players in games if you have not noticed? Most of the time he has been useful in keeping plays alive due to his fast passing.

He has also skated the puck in sometimes when the usual PP carry wasn't getting it there. And he has drawn a penalty by challenging D a couple of times lately.

He's a give away machine, either losing puck battles on the boards or just passing right to the opposition. Adding in his low stamina and lower speed there is a very good reason he has 3 goals in 40 games on 5v5 and doesn't look good outside of the powerplay no matter who he plays with.

If he can work his zone entries where he freezes at the blue with 3 guys on him everytime leading to bad turnovers I would be happy with 36. If he keeps up the bad cross-ice passes in traffic he’ll need to score 50 lol.

According to the good folks at HF Habs I have been corrected. He is already on a 36 goal pace over 82 games.

You understand he is playing with Suzuki on the powerplay? Is Suzuki not a good enough setup man or does Laine need a whole team of people around him to do everything other than shoot? LIke I said if what you said was true and he could double his production with Suzuki on 5v5 he would be with him, that's not the case. They don't want him to drag down the top line so he isn't there. 3 goals in 40 games, what an amazing pace.

I don't mean you any disrespect, but when I read some of your replies, it feels like I'm reading what someone shouted in disgust.

We aren't in court here, it's a god damn message board. What I said was wrong because others reminded me that he is on a 36-goal pace right now.

So, who would they put on the top line if there were an injury to Slafkovsky?

What I don’t get is why habs don’t score more from the right half wall on the pp with teams playing 2 guys hugging Laine.

Slaf has had some looks on the right side, but they are trying to get shots from Suzuki or Caufield if Laine is tied up. And close the distance too because Slaf won't score from Laine distance much.

It's gotten better, but there's still room for improvement. When the opponent gives you a 4 on 3 by focusing on one guy it should generate a lot of great chances closer up

Just looking forward to seeing if we can get his stride back and to how he plays with a 2c next year. The proof will be in the pudding. Then we'll see if he fits long term.
