I think the fact Laine's coming back from a very complicated past few years (athletically he had been checked out and contemplating retirement, multiple injuries, surgery rehab probably not optimal, clinical depression, etc.) and still managed to be near-PPG after yet another recent injury on his weak knee speaks to his upside.
The likes of Slafkovsky and Dach have every excuse in the world dredged up in their defence when they have 28 in 46 (50pt season pace) and 19 in 49 (31pt season pace), respectively, while Laine with a more recent injury and a more horrific past few years has 18 in 21 (70pt season pace) speaks to Laine being simply a higher calibre and class of player.
