Both sucked this year. Both are gone if they don't play better next year

I mean one plain sucked for 90% of his time here, the other was at worst, our 6th best forward and 4th offensively.

I'd keep Laine for sure

Maybe not at 8.7M a year, but he's fantastic on the PP, and still possess great hands

If NHL could dress 13 forwards, then Laine will an ideal 13th F. He would play all 2 minutes on each PP, and nothing else. Yes, he could handle the whole 2 minutes, because he just spends his energy on the swing only (shooting), and nothing else, no need to skate much neither. Just stands there and shoots.

Laine will be the best 13F of all-time.

Already this game Laine has created 2 scoring opportunities 5-on-5, but what can you really do playing with Newhook, realistically?

Next season he gets healthy summer training, and gets other creative high IQ linemates like Demidov and he will be one of the best Canadiens on ice regardless the situation.

I value playoff goals at about 1M AAV a piece, if we ever make a run we're going to need someone who can score on the PP

That was a underrated line in corson-koivu-recchi.

It was essentially corson's last hurrah as an offensive contributor in his NHL career.

6.5 is like 3 millions now? Thats incredibly low. Anything around 7 and 8 is more than fine.

Yeah, but there aren't better TOP-6 forwards outside Suzuki & Caufield rn. And you have to play your best players on TOP-6.

I like the ongoing Heineman experiment as he has definitely some hockey IQ.

For TOP-6? Where are they? I can't see other proper TOP-6 players right now besides the 1st line and Laine. Newhook is great 3rd line center on a good team. There isn't 2C on this team.

Though there are several promising young guys, some of them will eventually be TOP-6 guys for sure.

Laine has 4 even strength goals and he is a massive liability on his line. Even Gallagher is more of a top 6 player than Laine at this point.

he's playing better 5 on 5, he's been trending in the right direction for the last little bit.

If you don't count his knee injury, his lack of linemates, his even strength assists, and his powerplay points -- sure, whatever.

Thats his worst career 5v5 goalscoring by far. His career average is around 15.

Been asking for that change for a while. Now I don’t think Pez is the answer on the 4th line, but Laine and Newhook needed someone with more jam than Roy

If indeed he skates much better on some days that sounds very much injury related. ”Some days you just warm up better than others.”
