Patrik Laine is in a 6-game Win-streak

Did not take long for fans to hate him, I expected that. What would be the team with the least engaged fan base where Laine gets to play and nobody cares when he stinks?
San Jose? Anaheim?

A lot of people thought he would excel in Columbus for this reason.

We will run out of places to go in the nhl eventually.

At what point does Laine realize the easier path is simply backchecking and effort in board battles?

So Patty has won 6 games in a row (he missed yesterday's Chicago-loss and played only 1 period in the previous Columbus-loss (less than half of game = does not count)).

Are there any longer win streaks currently? What's the longest win streak of an individual player in NHL-history?
Btw some say that starting this thread jinxed Patty and the Habs. But this thread was started on the 4th of January and Habs won the 7 next games out of 9:

But Patty.. Patty started to lose his scoring touch shortly after that good stretch by Habs. And Habs started to lose. I think Patty scoring coincides with Habs wins. And vice versa.

I would start a new thread about it as its more actual as topic than this one. What you guys think?

Ok Patty's stats seem to support my conclusion above, check it out:

January-February:
Patty scored a goal in the game:
-> Habs won 2, lost 2 of the games.
Patty did NOT score a goal in the game:
-> Habs won 3, lost 7 of the games.

So solution to come back to 0.500 hockey for Habs is to get Laine scoring.

Suggestion: move Laine to line 1.
Suggestion: play Laine for FULL PP.
Suggestion: motivate Laine by flying all his friends to his games.

Thoughts?

Edit:

December:
- Habs were 6-0 when if Patty scored in the game.
- Habs were 3-4 when Patty did NOT score in the game.

Ok its pretty clear that Patty is the key. Patty SCORING is the key.

The only surprising thing is that it happened this fast.

Ok its true:

Habs December-February
(games where Laine played):
- games where Laine scored: Habs won 8, lost 2.
- games where Laine did NOT score: Habs won 6, lost 11.

Its time to prioritize Laine's scoring
.

This is just hate baiting at this point. I get that Laine makes it almost too easy but still.
It's as if he's not currently nursing a knee injury, he's not coming off 12+ months of injuries, mental unrest, and borderline retirement, etc.

Whatever. Let them have their minutes of hate. The only guy who can change it is Laine himself, I hope he does.

Perfect tank commander with the way he is playing now. Net negative impact on the ice, but when he scores, it's a highlight reel goal. The problem is that Montreal are for some reason trying to contend even though they're years away from having a complete enough roster.

They should realistically be rooting for Laine to lead the tank.

I've always thought he buy his own hype. In his early years people were so desperate to make him and Matthews a storyline (not just here). I am sure he saw it and fancied himself better then he is, but for a short while he slightly lived up to it. Then when things get tough he can't/won't work on it and crumbles, gets moved or signs then the new city hypes him up and the cycle repeats. Habs fans were wetting themselves saying he was scoring 50+ etc at the start, gets a huge ovation before he plays a shift, he was a on pedestal. Now that he's struggled the fans turned on him and he buys the negative and is stuck in his own head in a different way.

Let's be honest, how does he not score 50+ with that shot? You almost have to try and be this bad production wise with his skill set.

Like bro just sit there and fire shots on the PP.

On the other hand he's being paid 8+ million a year to be a professional athlete. If being a professional athlete is too much pressure, then there's 100 other professions he could pursue.

Fact is that he's scored 70 points once in his career and the last time he scored 30 goals was in 2018-19. He fell hard off the cliff. A lot of people would give him more slack if he himself didn't seem to be so full of himself and arrogant.

What he’s paid doesn’t change his injuries, surgeries, and mental leave. He’s openly said he lost his fitness and focus. Not sure what is going to be accomplished by constantly repeating his salary.

Suggestion: get rid of Laine because he's definitely not a guy you want on a rebuilding team and Caufield could finally regain his spot on the pp

That’s a great way to lose more games. If he is not moving his legs and playing bad defensively and 5 on 5 he is a big liability on line 1 or even 2.

You propose this as if Columbus and Winnipeg hasn’t already tried and failed to deal with this exact predicament.

The only person who can solve this is laine by working hard, taking feedback on where he needs to improve and completely buying in to the teams system.

So far it hasn’t happened - to the point he’d rather ask to be traded from the prior 2 teams instead of acknowledging his faults and what he needs to work on. His wish was fulfilled., twice, and happily by management.

Not sure he has that trade request to fall back on as an excuse anymore.

Which is a shame - cause laine when he is trying is a legit superstar. Winnipeg will always love him and have a soft spot for him, even though we would never want him back. I bet he’d jump at a chance to come back, grass wasn’t greener.

No Im actually one of the biggest Laine fans. And the stats I presented above are statistically sound. When Laine scores, Habs win. When Laine doesnt score Habs lose.

Guess what, Laine didnt score today. And you guessed it, the Habs lost.

I agree with this in a way. Caufield should take Laine's spot on the PP. It would give him more experience in that spot (he played it before Laine came), and gives Habs more options and flexibility in terms of future signings (Laine).
