Value of: Patrik Laine & 16 or 17 OA

You dont enter the player assistance program for playing Fortnite too often lmao

Why bother looking things up? Just throw out anything that comes to mind?

”Created in 1996, the player assistance program is a joint venture between the NHL and the players' union that's meant to help players when they're struggling with mental health, substance abuse and other issues. The program, which has been around since 1996, is also available to players' family members.”

In the words of Johnnie Taylor “It’s cheaper to keep her”

… or him, in this case

But isn't the point getting a needed player at either #2C or top 4 RHD? The thread isn't about just dumping Laine. If the Habs are trying to move Laine out and bring in a #2C or top 4 RHD (depending on the player) it will require more positive assets than just the 1st. It is my opinion that at $8.7 for a player that can't stay healthy, has effort concerns and plays the wing there won't be a long line up of teams interested in taking on Laine and giving up a 26 year old upgrade at one of the 2 most valuable positions in the sport.
This isn't the right time to make desperation move. Habs are youngest team in playoffs with top farm system in league. We have time. Trade deadline be something available. Summer of '26 the free agent markets much more available

You guys gave up Jordan Harris for Laine and a 2nd, he got benched, has less time on his contract and will be moving to his fourth team, and now you want a 1st round pick?

Good luck with that

I think the value is less than what ya'll gave to Columbus, not more. I find this topic pretty funny based on those things! Wish I had seen it sooner.

Laine + 2nd for literally nothing. Future considerations. Not far off from his value last year.

No, the OP idea was for the Habs to attach a first round pick with Laine to dump his contract. Most astute fans think the idea absurd - giving away valuable assets to dump 1 year of Laine when cap space is not an issue.

I don't think trading Laine at 50% requires that much of a sweetener or any at all. Some rebuilder will bet on him potting 20/25 goals and dumping him at 50% again.

Hugues won't give a pick I'm 90% sure they will buy him out
Wonder what his next deal looks like if that’s the case.

Probably looks for a 1 year prove it situation, maybe in the neighborhood of 3-4M? Potted 20 goals this year but there’s obviously a lot of uncertainty there

Any links to this claim? I've never heard of Laine having substance abuse issues. I've heard plenty of issues about the gaming and mental health, but not that. A quick Google search came up with nothing.
He doesn't even use alcohol unlike other Finns :D

Just keep Laine out of the trade. We have the cap space to absorb him and he is to contentious of a player to attract other teams. Besides, his deal is up next summer.

Our pieces available are......

16th
17th
1st 2026
Matheson
Beck
Mailloux
Hage - only for a massive deal

No reason for the Habs to trade him. More likely to work with him to get him in shape and focussed for next year. Is that possible? I don't know. But it is only one more year remaining and a contract year for him. While I do think the Habs, particularly their power play looked much better without him in the playoffs, one of their biggest needs is more scoring and that is the one thing he brings. Low risk high reward to pencil him in the lineup at least to start next year.

this makes sense, no need to loose assets for Laine, we'll just run out his contract.

Probably could retained 50% for like a 3rd pick on a team willing to give him a shot.

Calgary wants that pick back, and has the cap room. I dont imagine a Centre going back, but CGY has RD and actaully looking to make a full time spot for Parekh next season.

17th overall - originally CGY's pick.
Laine

for

Daniil Miromanov
COL 2nd round - probably be about 55 over all

How bad to the Habs need that money off the books? He had 33 points in 55 games. Thats a pretty steep price, mind you Columbus paid a 2nd to move him to the habs originally.

He is what he is. We're not getting a 1st for him for sure. But I think we could move him for next to nothing. 2nd overall picks that can score have 9 lives in this league.

However, he should probably cost less to move if any considering he will only have 1 year left and as shown he can still score in bunches. He wasn't really benched, he had a hand injury and couldn't shoot. It's almost the only reason to have him on your line up, his freaking elite shot.

Ok. Back to the OP's question.

How about,

To Calgary
Laine, Calgary's 1st, and Owen Beck

To Montreal
Rasmus Andersson
Jeremy Poirier
maybe, but I'd look for a more long term fix.
CGY can probably get more from a true contender tbh
