Patrik Laine’s falloff is wild

Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. Most people would give him the benefit of the doubt if he himself wasn't such a cocky asshole most of the time.

From what I've seen and heard, he seems to think that because he was the 2nd overall pick in the draft, somehow he's entitled to be treated as a king and doesn't have to bother with the not so pleasant things that come with being a top pro athlete. He's not bigger than the team and he got told that in Winnipeg by a few players. He really didn't like that at all when the more experienced players called him out and then he started sulking.

Sure, he's also had some bad luck with injuries etc. and that has to be taken into account also, but it's hard to feel sorry for a guy that is overly cocky and arrogant and then has to eat crow when he finds out that he's actually not that good when playing against the very best players in the world 82 games in a season plus playoffs. Most people do not realize how incredibly gruelling it is to play 82 regular season games of hockey against the top players in the world. You want to do that and at the same time play 12 hour marathons of Fortnite a few times a week, well then good luck with trying to keep your mind and body intact.

I didn't ask you to feel sorry for him, just pointed out that even under the best of circumstances, assuming he was a super hard worker, it seems very likely this would've been a very difficult season for him.

So going "wow what happened, what a falloff" seems a bit silly, especially since the thread starter is a CBJ fan who I'm sure is well aware of just exactly what happened.

He’s going to need a final wakeup call or he’ll be off to play in Finland cause right now he seems to only be a top 6 level player when he’s on the PP and he doesn’t have the drive or work ethic to be a bottom 6 player. Kind of sad to see him fall off so much but at the same time as others of have said it’s hard to feel bad for him given that attitude he seems to have.

Anytime he faces any kind of adversity with his team he just crumbles. It's a shame I've been a big fan of Laine and I was so angry when the Jets traded him but can't argue with it being a bad move anymore. When he's on he's got one of the best shots in the league.

There’s other players that stayed in Columbus that didn’t fall off. I fact, some are thriving I. The face of adversity. It’s not a catch all excuse.

I don't know what anyone doing well in Columbus has to do with Laine's injury history and mental health.
Look at the standings. They were talked about as a last place team going into the season and they are battling for a playoff spot.

I’m just saying you can’t use it as an excuse for Laine when he’s not even there.

Where do you even get the idea I was using anything Columbus related as an excuse for Laine. I was just referring to the fact that since Laine used to play for Columbus and the OP is Columbus fan, he should be well aware of Laine's injury history, being in the PAP and not playing hockey for almost a full calendar year.

Remember all the Laine > Matthews threads Jets fans used to make? Pepperidge farms remembers
I remember those threads but those were 95% Finnish first fans and only Jets fans by proxy of the team having Laine.
It was fun to have him on our team, he was an exciting player.
Seems like he can still be that player in short spurts.
I'll always cheer for him to do well.

All things considered the timing of this thread is pretty strange considering he was a top contributor for Team Finland in a best-on-best tournament and has scored at a point per game pace for Montreal since then (with some of the lowest TOI on the team).

Yeah he had a really cold streak before that when the whole team was worn out from a rough schedule and lost like 9 games in a row. It happens.

Another 2 points for Laine with some of the lowest TOI on the team.
