Guessing Kane wanted only 1 year. This could also be the Dan Cleary deal where they just sign 1 year contracts but with the understanding that it’ll be for X number of years. Great way to mitigate any LTIR risk if his hip blows up on a 35+ contract.

Strange he would be closing in on that in Detroit without even testing the market then if he really wants the extra years. I’m sure some team would offer him 2 or 3 years if he hits UFA.

Usually agree but inflating cap and really only one long term commitment on the team, maybe 3 total depending on what Raymond and Seider sign for.. not too worried.

It basically cock-blocks us from making use of next season's cap increase. At some point we need another legitimate top 6 piece to compete with. Kane isn't it. Why jam up the cap with him?
