Hornqvist is one of my all-time favorite Penguins. The cup-clinching goal in 2017 was such an incredible moment, and appropriately enough, it was such a typical Hornqvist goal; standing right by the crease and smashing the puck into the net at an ugly angle with sheer willpower. I still miss what he brought.

Rutherfords second last trade he made before he quit. Safe to say the Pens started going down hill after this.

Horny for Matheson was a good trade to make at the time. Horny was pretty devastated by concussions that year so who knows how that might have panned out. We were in desperate need of a higher end PMD, especially a RD.

One thing we've never been good about is trading players before the bottom falls out. I think JR made a good decision at the right time. As much as I love Hornqvist.

Absoliutely correct. And I say this as Horny was probably in my top 5 or so fav Pens in my lifetime.

Horny was cooked and we got good value for him.

Matheson is left handed and plays LD.

deep sigh

Okay, what is the awful Pittsburgh sports media story behind this?
From my dusty memory Horny found out secondhand through the media that the Pens were trying to trade him even though he had some kind of trade protection at the time.
The local media said he was pissed and threw his Pens gear out onto the driveway.
Turns out, per Horny, he was just airing his equipment out.

Which rules because you know none of the goober sportswriters employed in town knew that was actually a thing people do.

Hell, more people should air their equipment out, that’s my hot take and I’m sticking to it.

So what's the article actually say?
The nuts and bolts are that Hornqvist helps change the culture wherever he goes. For all the talent the Pens had on the Cup teams, Hornqvist helped set the overall tone because of how intense yet genuine he is.

Florida credits his presence for doing the same thing for them.

He gave Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Sullivan a shoutout at the end.

That information just crowded out a cherished memory of my grandmother.
