Roster Moves: (Part II) Gostisbehere, 2022 2nd, 2022 7th to AZ, cap relief in return

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Part One: Confirmed with Link: - Gostisbehere, 2022 2nd, 2022 7th to AZ, cap relief in return | Page 34 | HFBoards - NHL Message Board and Forum for National Hockey League (mandatory.com)

Flyers deal Shayne Gostisbehere plus draft picks to Arizona Coyotes - The Morning Call (mcall.com)

Fletcher basically called around the entire NHL to work the best deal possible but potential takers were few and far between.

So why didn’t it work out here for Ghost?

“Injuries certainly impacted him,’' Fletcher said during a media Zoom call. “My first season when I came in he wasn’t a hundred percent. This (2021) was the first year he was better, he tried to regain his timing and I think he was playing better.’'

The Pembroke Pines, Fla. native did post nine goals and 20 points in 41 games. Certainly nothing close to his 2015-16 freshman year (17 goals, 46 points) or 2017-18 (13 goals, 65 points), but respectable.

“I think the defense corps (on the Flyers) has probably improved,’' Fletcher noted. “Some of the young players have emerged and gotten better. But certainly, injuries impacted him and now we have the flat salary cap. You’ve seen some movement (of players) through expansion already ... there’s not a lot of liquidity; I think you will see a lot of moving parts for various reasons. Good players going each way.’'

Yeah, that's exactly it... guess you've never dealt with leverage as part of a bargaining position.
Please. You really think that if the Flyers hadn't waived him his trade price would have been different? Come on. If any team wanted him, they could have snapped him up for free. Every team in the league passed. No one wanted him. That's why he had negative trade value.

We tried to trade Ghost last summer too(pre waiving)...no takers.

We had to pay to dump Ghost.
We can't find anyone who'd take JVR or Voracek off our hands for less than our 1st rd pick it seems.
Welcome to the flat cap world.
It's not just the Flyers, wait and see the deals that go down this week, and the low balls offered to FAs once the few "hot" items are off the table.

Forget big moves the next two years unless they trade/let walk G and/or Couts. There's no money.
I expect the one big move is to extend Sanheim long-term or trade him, because bridging him to his UFA years doesn't make sense.

Maybe JVR can be moved next year with one year left on his deal, Voracek only if he rebounds to his 2019-20 form when he actually played defense.

I don’t think there was a player this fan base was more divided on. Some love him, some hate him. I had a Ghost jersey, and will always appreciate what he was here. It’s a bad look giving up the picks and Ghost for nothing, but I get it. Of JVR, Jake, and Ghost, I was willing to lose Ghost. The irony is, the defense is much much worse without him. I’ll sit back and trust Chuck to replace him.

I'm really waiting to see what bonafide top-4 free agent D are signing for this offseason in terms of cap percentage. One can argue that it was time to cut loose Ghost and reshape the D with focus and defensive play but that also comes at a cost.

Larsson looks like a possible steal for what he signed for but Savard and Suter may ask for a fortune now. Those guys get to pick their favourite destination or you overpay grossly.

Personally, I'd rather have retained on Ghost to not hand over the 2nd rounder.

Adding picks to move him only makes sense if Fletcher lands a much better replacement. It’s clear as day what the rest of the league thinks of Ghost as well though so not sure how some can still call him a top pair/top 4 defenseman.

Whether or not the league thinks he’s a top 4 defenseman is completely irrelevant in determining whether or not he is in fact a top 4 defenseman.

He should be able to get at least a 2nd for Giroux at the deadline too.
Chuck clearly got caught with his pants down and it was a total embarrassment. Ghost should have been moved during the regular season, What the frig is our next move...give Jake and picks for futures! So far the nightmare season continues.
