Proposal: Parayko to the Jets

Columbus can offer its first, Minnesota first, Sillinger and Malatesta for him which is a better offer

Imagine Parayko - Werenski pair

Parayko is a good target for anyone, I said that last year as well. I'm fully on board with dealing Rashevsky and our 1st, but Cole has to be left out of it. There are a lot of reasons why this can backfire on us:

-I'm not sure Parayko and Morrissey have the chemistry to make it work. They were so-so at the Four Nations tournament.
-Trading Perfetti is a non-starter this year. That proposed trade leaves us with a major gap on the second line (in addition to us already needing a 2C) that we will struggle mightily to patch with whatever else is available at the deadline if we don't have our 1st rounder.
-If Ehlers walks in the off-season on top of losing Perfetti, we're in huge trouble on offence. Lambert and Chibrikov aren't ready for that role yet.
-Pionk is UFA, which strains the negotiation to extend him. If he walks because Parayko took his place, that's terrible asset management.

Parayko is at 15 5v5 goals for or something silly like that. He's also our shutdown defenseman.

We trade Parayko and then who exactly plays RD for 20 minutes a night? Faulk and Kessel? I'm not sure that's worth a couple of younger players.

There's no good way for the Blues to trade Parayko. We need to work our way out of the surrounding cast and try and draft a high end RHD if we're going to consider doing that anytime soon. Faulk is ok, not great.

We don't need to maximize assets right now, our forward prospect pool looks really really good and assuming we keep Broberg around after this contract I feel pretty solid that our LHD for the forseeable future is in a decent place between him and Lindstein although there may be a year of a gap in there or two.

It instantly crushes the Blues defensively and those picks are outside of the range of the current core. The only reason you'd trade Parayko for multiple firsts is if you're definitely flipping those firsts for a defenseman. These multiple stage trades are such a weird consideration on a fanfiction forum. Not only is that rarely how things actually go, but nobody gets to have fun thinking about even a theoretical future of their team.

Perfetti needs to be left out because it makes little sense to weaken the team in another area when you're making a playoff push. That said if he can be swapped for a prospect it could be intriguing.

That said upgrading on Dylan Demelo isn't a huge need imo and I'd rather see those assets being put towards trying to acquire a top 6 C.

Perhaps OP just wanted to see how the Sportsnet offer registered in HFboard world and doesn't actually want to entertain trading #55. One can only hope.

Hard pass (particularly for a deal that includes 2 wingers)

Last TDL I vividly remember Kypreos spending weeks before the deadline shooting down any Parayko to Leafs talk because and I quote "his back is messed up".

So now all of a sudden, he under estimated him? No, you specifically were reporting that the rumors around the league was the ability was there but his back brought into question his longevity and ability to play to that level currently.

So what has changed to ease those concerns outside of a 4 game tournament that people are over reacting to (like the WJC)?

This seems like a trade a team like the Blackhawks would make. Get some established vets in to build around, that costs a lot of assets.

I don’t see the Jets moving a top 6 player at the trade deadline.

If blues really want to move him might be an off season move.

He’s a great player though!

Weird... his back was a bit of a mess, but that wasn't last year, that was 21/22.. and the season before. 22/23 he seemed to recover some, and then last season was pretty good, and of course this season possibly even better. But Kypreos was well off on his judgement of the time horizon. I think people still had concerns two years ago, given the contract size, but over the last two seasons in particular, he's shown that isn't a concern.

That being said, St. Louis appear to be in the playoffs fight, and don't appear to be set to do that type of rebuild/retool moves, that would see players like Parayko and Schenn moved. I think they'll stand pat.

Pass. This is terrible for Blues. None of the return makes sense.
Wow. I’d be thrilled to get that for a Morrissey if we were a bubble team thinking about a rebuild.

What is a good return for Pareto in your eyes if a top 6 scoring winger/centre, 2 first overalls and a potential top 6 prospect (with some risks) isn’t enough?

I honestly think Colton is in sell high mode. His current years stats, 4 nations performance, and it being a sellers deadline. I’m not sure you’ll ever get that much for him again.

The guy has already won a Cup - has a full NTC and I don't see him waiving it for Winnipeg. (sorry jets fans)
I don’t think Jets fans are clamoring to spend what it would take to get him.

So there’s nothing to be sorry about. I think every Jets fan would be stocked to get him. Not at that price. (Assets not Aav).

I don't think the return is too much like some Jets fans here think. But like some mentioned, we can't lose Perf and then possibly Ehlers this offseason as well. Parayko has five more years left at a low cap hit. That will cost any team a ton. With cap going up, having a top D at that price is extremely valuable.

Also like someone mentioned, doubtful he waives his NMC to come to Winnipeg.

It’s not so much the value as the fit. We are in 3rd year of rebuild, so while that might have been attractive 2 years ago it’s not now. Blues are stacked with young wingers, winger prospects, and have had a lot of recent late 1sts. We need centers, rhd, and basically high end players. If you offered Salomonsson and Lambert and picks instead, that would be more appealing if we actually wanted to deal him.
