Once the Blues were know for having a defense that were at least of a certain height, now it appears the AAV will be the common denominator.

Amazing AAV...just hope his body holds up. Dude is a machine, and worth the risk if the medical team signed off. (insert Tarasenko joke here)

Now...just go find a #1LHD and the Cup window may get opened again. (Lindholm, if not Chychrun or Hanifin)

There's going to be some salty peeps on the Trade board when they see that 6.5 mil AAV.

I am so f***ing happy right now.

I don't care what you guys say, he's bonafide #1D and is going to win us more cups. :yo:  :jump::highclap::towel::vhappy:
May I suggest you rapidly rehydrate?

They will all say that it is risky due to he's a broken down player and that the Blues will regret it after year 4 of the deal. Bank on that.

Then the ludicrous trade offers will start up again.

Honestly surprised he didn't a bit more, as thought would have wanted to be highest paid D on team. But 6.5 seems to be Army's preferred number.
Krug and Faulk both got 7 years. As did Petro on his $6.5M deal. In terms of contract value, he is the highest paid D man. This is the biggest contract the team has ever given to a D man.

Love this deal and thankful we don’t have to worry about signing him over the next year! I think he’s the kind of player who could age like a Bouwmeester, and become a legit shut down defenceman later on in his career if his speed and shot slow down a bit.

Not to mention the deal is fairly front loaded and he’ll be playing for a lot less towards the back end of this deal. Just hoping the back isn’t an issue and he returns as the colt we know and missed last year

The timing of the deal says to me that the Blues have been monitoring Parayko this summer and are obviously comfortable that he’s healthy.

Now obviously things can change when games start being played, but I don’t think we see this extension if there were warning signs of a lingering back issue.
This deal could also signal that there is some risk, given that Parayko could have made a lot more on the open market.

Really like the deal if his back issues are truly fixed. I would think the Blues are confident in his ability to rebound and hopefully Parayko can get back to his former self next season. I'd like to see him get back to being a 30-35 point defenseman again as well.

When Faulk and Krug are getting 6.5mill.$ AAV and somehow Parayko gets same money it's easy to say this is steal contract. Term is long, but I would be more worried about Krug and Faulk regress for last year's of their contracts vs. Parayko's. It's not like Parayko plays physical way so his body will slow down. Look how Faulk play, we will most likely see fast regression in his speed etc.

Great job by Army get Parayko secured.

I'm not worried Parayko isn't full healthy, but if he isn't this contract is awful looking how long term is, but have to believe our doctors are top of things.

I'd like to see him get back to being a top 3 shutdown defensemen in the league.

There you go. Fixed it for ya.

The only concern I have is his back. If that’s ok then this is great. He always looks so confident on the ice and plays that way. I’m surprised his offense never took off but I wouldn’t be shocked to see that develop even as he approaches his 30s.

This really isn't a surprise. I remember a couple years ago when Berube (or was it Army?) was asked which player he would want to date his daughter. Said Parayko and its not close.

I don't think they would have been okay letting Petro walk if they were worried about resigning Parayko. Team loves them some Colt55 and its mutual.
