From the comments made by Mitchell and what he signed for, the Kings, if they did make an offer, probably weren't going to offer more than 1-year, and it likely would have been a contract that would pay in performance based bonuses.

Even at 37, I thought Mitchell was one of our best players down the stretch. He's a great defenseman, and losing him hurts, but I'm also happy for him. He deserves to get paid.

Agreed wholeheartedly, and I think his loss is understated. We'll feel it as we did last year. Prepare for some growing pains with McNabb as we had with Muzzin and realize the d will take a step back to take a step forward.

I'd say it was 1 year at 3.5M but with bonuses to get him there. And it really came down to wanting a guaranteed salary and 2 year term.

I thought Florida did the best job in free agency. They remind me of what Lombardi did when he first came here-bridge players. They have some good, young players, some quality vets and Luongo in goal, I think they can make some noise this season. And don't forget no state income tax in Florida so that money goes quite a bit farther. He's also gonna get quality minutes, good deal for him.
