Well let's start with the fact that as a public figure who represents the NHL shield as an owner you're basically advised to be non-political and stay above everything. Going after 1, an entire country whose already been quite vocal at games about the 51st state nonsense and 2, being what looks like actual pro genocide (starve them) and not the fake pro-genocide lobbed around for generally supporting israel. May create issues with advertisers and fans on both sides of the border. Ya know, the people the NHL needs to survive
Did you read what he wrote? The 51st state comment was laughably silly and we know he’s just repeating what the President says. But the other comments, which I will not repeat, were truly vile. The NHL is a company and it can certainly censure owners and employees for saying things that damage their brand. The NBA had an owner say really vile things publicly and he was forced out.
