Can't believe we got all 4

Are we collectively stepping away from the cliff for the time being?

Decades of (sports-related) trauma has made me extremely comfortable on that cliff/ledge. I'm just not used to teams I support actually being any good... I'm so used to the tiny moments of joy to then turn around and stab you in the back while twisting the knife. But I'm working on it!

For today, I'm a VERY smug Cat.

I think this team is so good they’re like mid 2000s lakers toying with teams and sleep walking through regular season only to turn into Godzilla in the post season

When everyone is clicking and on their game, we’re practically unbeatable. Fatigue will ultimately keep us from repeating if they go balls to the wall every game.

I still have some concerns about the blue line, but yeah, the last three games have vindicated the opinion many of us have put forth here: these guys are coasting a lot of nights.

My real gripe is that I wish they'd save most of the coasting for road games. You have a lot of new eyes giving the team a chance right now, get 'em excited.

This is fair. The folks paying premium to see these home games deserve the best.

After getting the cup I honestly don’t care. Normally I would be having a fit about all the losses during that bad streak, but my GAF meter is still at zero because of the cup. As long as they make the playoffs and turn it up there I’m good.

IMO Schmidt is more and more looking like a true number 3/4 with Mikkola (they make a grest 2nd d-pair combo). Of course he is far from Monty's offensive skill, yet he has some, skates like the wind and is really good on the boards and boxing out players in front of the net. I liked that PoMo seperated Kuli and Miksy and Schmidt took the spot, Kuli is not made to be a mainstay number 4 (but always a regular!)

Yup. That was my only "concern" about the losses. Want to have a good record at home purely for the fans.
Definitely know they can't be going 110% for 82 games.

Missed this one but looks like Maurice cussed them into the right groove again.

Knight must get more frequent starts, management need to see what he can handle now and next year before deciding on a longer term deal or possibly upgrading if need be.

Watching Bennett and Lundell succeed is awesome to see as well.
Bennett on 7x7 deal will be fine once Bob's deal is gone.

Completely agree that we don't want to burn out on meaningless games. Although I don't really think the guys are coasting on purpose - more that they can't give it 100% every night and when enough of them feel that way on any given night, we lose that game.

Were there any different lineups or adjustment in tactics in the last few games that I missed? Or were the wins simply an effort thing as we suspect?

Panthers after a D upgrade

The reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers began the week bottom third in the NHL in goals against per game, and that’s not where we’re used to seeing them.

Some of that, sure, might be losing Brandon Montour and Oliver Ekman-Larsson to free agency last summer. The revamped blue line hasn’t been as tight defensively.

But I also think part of what’s happening is that when Florida plays to its true identity, it’s a relentless, hard-nosed style that requires all kinds of energy.

It’s doable over a playoff run, but I’m not sure how realistic it is to play that style 100 percent of the time over 82 regular-season games. I feel like we’re seeing that relentless style in parts of games, on some nights, but not consistently all the time.

Having said, my understanding is the Panthers do intend to tweak the blue line between now and the March 7 trade deadline. That’s already the internal discussion. They don’t have much cap space, so they will need to be creative.
