I missed a lot of this game, was able to catch the first period and halfway through the 3rd to the end. It seemed like Nico was buzzing the most. He absolutely deserves recognition for the season he's having. We all want more consistency offensively from the entire group, especially the top 6, but what he's doing on top of the defensive load he's shouldering is extremely impressive.

Thought Luke had another very solid game last night as well.

He definitely turned it on halfway through the game, but early on, the Devils would have sustained pressure and there were multiple pass just exploding on his stick and killing the play. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was one of the sickly guys.

Team is clearly exhausted from sickness and been down a gear since the break. Idk how someone can watch the team lately and not see it, and also be mad at the result from yesterday.

Its like some folks never watched a full season before
Regardless of the sickness/tiredness, I thought the team played a solid, tight game against the reigning Stanley Cup Champs. Well deserved point.

Keefe has been preaching about playing a patient game, and having possibly gotten away from that on the road trip. They have absolutely gotten back to it in the past two games at home.

I know it's not the exciting brand of hockey some might prefer, but they're playing such a smarter type of game that has been missing the past few years.

The sucky part for me was that we lost in my first game seeing on tv/app in a long time...

but other than that, the L blows but we played well. It was a very low tone playoff game IMO

FLA #1 business was to be physical against us and jump out ahead... if they ever fell behind, they wouldn't win against us.

Markstrom was f***ing boss level, offense needs to be better. Timo & Bratt needs to get it going and not wait for Jack to pull it out of his ass.

Mercer, come on bro, gotta get going!

For me, I only took away positives.

This was winnable against a very tough opponent. FLA was crashing the net and generally mucking it up any chance. Last year, they fold I think, regardless of how physically able they would have been.

This year, they cleared creases, stuck up for each other and battled all game.

Nico dropped the gloves. This is not last year’s team. Tkachuk tried to bully NJ but it didn’t work. Both teams had their chances and both goalies played well. The shootout is whatever.

Given the way the game played out they couldn’t go after Tkachuk beyond the initial scrum but maybe some random thug will show up in the offseason to rob his house and steal his cup ring from his safe and he will feel so violated and insecure that he will shun modern society and spend the eat of his days in a monastery.

The worrying things are that the team hasn’t had a good 3rd period since before Christmas. Every 3rd period they’ve come close to giving up a game winning or game tying goal, or they’ve actually done it. With a ton of ton spent in the defensive zone trapped.

And we haven’t scored more than 3 goals since the first game back from Christmas and have only scored 3 goals since one other time and that was on Grubauer, who everybody else is scoring is scoring either 5 goals on or 3 in the 1st period.

EDIT - we scored 3 on Vasilevskiy, but point still remains in regulation.

For some reason I forgot we won that game 3-2 and not 2-1 lol.

They were definitely very patient last night. We dumped in a lot, but a lot of that was just what Florida was giving us and we largely never got burned because of that.

I think you could argue we were a bit too patient. A few rushes died because an extra forward was hanging too far back defensively.

But it was also a B game type of outing and I'm not convinced everyone was feeling 100%.

I don't really come away from this game with many negatives beyond the fact I hate the shootout.

The scoring situation feels worse then it actually is largely because everyone has hit a shooting drought along with the PP going cold. Also that 4 out of 6 bottom 6ers not doing anything.

8 our of our forwards have at least 10 goals, that is actually solid depth scoring.

I'm really not worried because I don't think it will take much, between an acquisition and just some puck luck, to push this back in a really good direction.

You want someone with Jack and Nico that is doing what Palat is doing, which is getting to soft areas and putting pucks on net, and do that better.

That player doesn't need straight line speed to succeed in that role.

Palat has been playing better than usual lately but playing better then dogshit is not a great accomplishment

Toffoli has 13 ES goals this year(about the same rate when he was a Devil) and is pretty mediocre at everything that isn’t goal scoring.

Palat has 10 ES goals and provides pretty good structural support along the boards and defensively.

I don’t miss Toffoli at all.

I posted it in the team thread the other day, but last 25 games(which is about when he was put on Hughes line) Palat is tied for league lead in 5v5 goals.

Not surprised. He has been fine there. Not a liability at all. If we can upgrade from him in that spot, that would be great, but it's not the end of the world if we don't assuming we are upgrading the bottom 6 instead.
