This was the ugliest game I've seen in a long time. Just horrendous to watch. And Jack was so bad, it was probably his worst game in years. I would have never let him shoot in the SO. Not today.

Back and forth game that the Devils very well could of won. I'll take 5 out of 6 points from the Cup Champs.

Took forever to get to the shootout this season but, as we all know the Devils are god awful at winning them. I dont want to see Jack in the shootout ever again, he struggles so badly in them. Doesn't make any sense but some star players clearly struggle with them too.

The thought that just won't leave my mind, and not just during shootouts: why does it feel like this team scores so rarely on breakaways? So much offensive skill and talent, but give them a one on one opportunity at the opposing goalie and my confidence that something good is about to happen just plummets.

They generally have a finishing problem.

He never really was a force in San Jose outside of two really good years

.70 ppg as a shark

As a devil .70 ppg

Gpg are in line with his sharks numbers
This is my thing, I think people expected Meier to be something different than he was. I think he's overpaid but I'm fine with him. Would've preferred someone more like the Tkachuck/Marchand/Wilson rat type of player but yeah, Meier isn't going to be some 40-50 goal scorer.

To me (from the eye test), the Meier we have now isn't quite the same player before whatever knee and/or shoulder injury that he has had surgery on, he is less dynamic than that first trade deadline acquisition Meier.

I'm hoping it is temporary, and hoping he will go on a run like to end last season, but it's dragging on this season, and he is snakebitten to boot which isn't helping.

He was slightly overpaid even before that, and I wasn't concerned about that, but it looks like he is a level down than before.

Boring game, but the result is fine. Panthers had a lot of energy still left in the later parts in a b2b game. The shootout is such a dice throw to this team that I'd rather see them just pick random players for it. Put Mercer, Luke, Siegenthaler whoever in. Also incredible how much Tatar has fallen since that 22-23 season. He has no idea what to do with the puck. He thinks he's Peter Forsberg out there trying to protect abd hold on to it only to give it away every single time.

I’m really not concerned with Timo. He’s far from the only guy having trouble finishing on the team right now. He’s drawing the heavy defensive matchups alongside Nico, and he’s driving play at a strong level against that. He’s using his size effectively too, which I love to see.

I know it feels like we’ve been saying it for weeks now, but the finishing will come and turn the corner at some point. They’re doing the right things, the pucks have to start bouncing in our favor eventually.

I'm mildly annoyed about not taking advantage of a bad goalie and a team that has been mediocre lately on the back end of a back to back (even if they are good in them), even if the team is sick.

Yea this was set up as a scheduled loss for Florida and we couldn't take advantage of it. Thankfully we got a point or I would have been really pissed.

I must say, I’m pleasantly surprised at the (mostly) level headedness in here after that loss. It was not a very fun or great game to watch, but as a team they played well structured hockey against the defending SC champs who also played a very sound and structured game. They got a point and lost in a tired gimmick. It sucks to not get that extra point, but it is what it is.

Jeeze, Knight isn’t “automatic win” bad. Also consider the fact that Florida blew a two goal lead against the Flyers the night before. This was always going to be a tough game.

i thought it was a fine game against a really good team. it was pretty even, and we grinded out a point.

picking up 6 of 8 points when we’re playing far from our best hockey is a good sign. they’re getting games to OT which they couldn’t do last year at all, and keeping separation from all the mediocre teams.

i expect fitz sees what we do and wants to fix the bottom 6 and thankfully he has the resources to do it at the deadline

one benefit to the divisional playoff is that you have a good sense of the teams you would be facing in the first two rounds and look to bring in improvements to face them. just a shame that we finished playing the caps last month.

If I had to guess, some of it probably has to do with them being told to be a bit tougher on chances against. Lindy's system was a car crash waiting to happen with either a goal for or against happening quick in OT. Also, gotta remember that Jack was piss poor in OT last year too.

To be fair though. I think in OT, they should have a do or die mentality. They aren't winning in the shootout. Maybe Keefe will learn that sooner than later

Doubt it considering the guys spend a huge amount of time together. But hey who knows.
I listened to the post game, my impression of what Keefe said was more like “ya, a bunch of guys are sick but I’m not getting into that.”

He said something along the lines of “one guy gets sick then 5 guys get sick but Noesen is the only guy that we know of that is sick and sometimes guys choose to play through things.”

So I agree there are likely other sick guys on the team, but we can’t really know.

Agreed. They’re finding their game in the last few games, that’s a solid sign.
