Panarin: Yes or No?

I have't seen a poll on this topic and if it has been done, I didn't see it when I did a search. Anyways boys, real simple poll question for my Ranger brothers...do we want Panarin or not. As we all know, there's been a ton of chatter between all of us about whether or not we go hard for Panarin when the FA period opens up July 1st or not.

If any of y'all have read my comments over past few months, I'm a huge proponent of Gorton going all in to bring the Bread man to NY. Now whether or not he would come here is a totally different animal but that's not the question I'm posing here nor the purpose of my poll.

Other than cash and quite a bit of it as it likely would take in the order of $10-11 mill for 7 years type of cash to even get Panarin to come here from a financial perspective, the really good thing is we wouldn't need to give up any draft capital or prospects to get him. His age(27) along with his style of play, I think he'd fit in wonderfully here and wouldn't in any way interrupt the rebuild that has been IMO, orchestrated superbly thus far by Gorton.

With Kakko almost a 99.9% certainty to be our pick in the draft, bringing in Kravtsov, Fox and others to the mix, the addition of an 80-90 point Panarin would accelerate the rebuild tenfold withought sacrificing anything and that is a good thing for sure.

That said I've read opposing points of view from some of y'all here in Ranger Nation and so I want to get a good gauge at this point in time from y'all as to where you are at. Do we go hard and try to bring the Bread man here or do we let him go to Florida or wherever else he'd go tho most likely it would be the Panthers.

If after you vote, it would be outstanding if you could give your reasoning for wanting Gorts to go hard for him and if you don't want him, indicate why you think we should pass....thanks in advance. I look forward to seeing how this poll turns out.

I evidently did because when i did a search for a specific poll on whether or not our fan base wanted us to go after Panarin or not, I didn't uncover one. I saw quite a bit of threads discussing the subject but I didn't see an actual poll. I wanted to see in exact numbers how many of those 1,748 peeps who you say commented or composed threads on this topic, what they thought.

If I missed it, I apologize for wasting your reading time. Please ignore the thread than....lol

I’m assuming 10 for 7 and then it’s a yes for me. That would also mean trading Kreider more likely, meaning we would also get a pick/prospect, making it even more lucrative.
 
The difference between signing Panarin for 11M and 9M is honestly negligible. It’s basically the difference of re-signing someone like Fast for 2.75M or just playing someone like Nieves like 800k. Of course you could say - why not sign him for 9M and then still save the 2M on Nieves that’s absolutely true but we’ve seen time and time again teams don’t do this and will want to pay for depth players when possible. Not saying I would pay him anything but I would not nitpick over a million or two.

The second overall pick changed things for me. I think the Rangers' window opens in two or three years and Panarin could be a big part of that. Alternatively, the Rangers could sit tight and wait until the 2020 or 2021 offseason to make a big splash. What does the UFA market look like in the coming years?

Frankly, I think Gorton is setting this up so big splashes in free agency are not necessary. He’s getting a chance to draft the types of players the Rangers would have to chase in free agent markets of the past. He’s also accumulating enough trade capital to acquire players before they hit their prime.

He turns 28 less than a month into the season...so 27 is a bit misleading...especially when phrased as a 'young' 27.

And I don't really see how a RHS winger is our greatest need when our defense is complete trash. We have Zibby who is a RHS for the PP and from what I understand, Kravtsov is more comfortable playing his off-side.

It is also much easier to find wingers than it is to get top pairing D-Men.

I'd never put it past the Rangers regardless of what the media is saying.

I think it will partially depend on whether or not they are looking at Toronto and wondering if those 2nd contracts to their early drafted players would have been more team friendly had they not been comparing themselves to an 11M cap hit contract.

I don't find it to be a coincidence that Matthews has a little bit higher cap hit than Tavares or that they both have similar big signing bonuses in lieu of salary throughout. I would not find it surprising if Marner was seeking a similar deal too.

I think it's interesting that the signing of JD was potentially construed as a selling point for Panarin to come to NYC.

Sure, JD was part of the org that traded for Panarin, but they were almost surely going to let him walk this year.

It never appeared that the CBJ organization was giving Panarin a ringing endorsement. The story from Lagreca makes a lot of sense in the context.
