This doesn't compute. If it's total bullshit, the Rangers shouldn't be giving it the light of day.

One of these parties is an NHL franchise managed by a guy who was a former NHLer player.

The other is the government of one of the world’s largest economies.

Sometimes I think we give this team a little too much credit. They absolutely cannot just dismiss it.

They can't. The backlash for the team not doing its due diligence on what clearly seems as if it is bullshit, would be worse than the bullshit accusation itself. Which sucks, because I wish the team could just have Panarin's back and say "This is a completely unfounded allegation and we support our player". But not in 2021. They are doing what they have to do.

Look how Voynov was banished for his clowning; this could very well be bad for Bread.

This is the same argument people make about age of consent.

The law is the law. Yes, it's a little arbitrary and has some small errors, just like voting age, drinking age, ect.

But at a certain point the law says an adult is an adult.

You can't just make the claim that all behavior isn't accountable just because legally we needed to draw an imperfect arbitrary line. That's throwing the entire baby out with the bath water.

Look, the law is the law, I agree. If you are an adult by the law, you face full consequences of your behaviour.

Wasnt the issue. Issue is, you find out that your worker was in a gang for example. Now, there is a huge difference, if he was in a gang last summer, or he was there a decade ago right? And if you know, he ceased any criminal activity 10 years ago, you would probably leave him at his job.

Otherwise, you have a situation, where if you have done anything wrong in the past, it doesn't matter if you corrected your behaviour, you are still tainted. In this case, why should one correct the wrong behaviour at all?

Mod Note

There will be zero tolerance for bringing US political discussion into this conversation. Do not say we didn't warn you.

First of all, Brooksie needs to get the facts straight before calling it a “political hit”.

Nazarov said this alleged incident happened in Riga, Latvia, and it is not even in Russia.

Secondly, there’s zero need for any kind of retribution because Navalny is not popular among Russians despite how it’s portrayed in the western media.

The question is: why does Panarin even care?

Obviously its retribution from Putin, a relatively mild one as well. Yet Artemy shouldn't care.. theres more in the russian press than the story with the girl, Artemiy is being described as a true psychopath who used to steal from his teammates and more.

well, he does have family in Russia. Maybe he needs to clean something up.

Maybe he knows more than letting on (and straight from NYR).

Russia is a soft authoritarian state. No, not everyone who is against Putin has been arrested and poisoned, in fact, the list is not very long. Basically, when it comes to arrests and imprisonment, you have Khodorkovsky and now Navalny. Probably you can throw in Belykh aswell, but I mean, he got caught getting a bribe(he was obviously set up but anyway)
Litivenko as well? Panarin did the morally right thing standing up to that piece of garbage regime and sadly he’s probably starting to see the consequences

If you think the fact that it happened in Riga makes the slightest bit of difference as to whether it is or isn't a hit piece, you have zero clue what you're talking about. It is a politically motivated statement by Nazarov, that much is fact. Whether or not the assault actually happened is another issue entirely.

some of you have really questionable attitudes towards the potential victimhood in this circumstance.

this seems questionable from a purely political perspective but some of you speak as if russia/lativa/the CIS bloc have no domestic violence victims and everyone that lives there cannot be trusted. If Panarin did this (absolutely huge if), will there be a rallying cry that his alleged victim is a liar or a putin crony?

At the moment, along with TDA, we can add Panarin’s salary to the heap of dead money.

So to recap this latest episode of As The Rangers World Turns
