Yeah and both guys were going to lap MSL

Forsberg - 57 pts in 39 games or a 120 pt pace per 82 vs MSL who had less than 100

Crosby - 56 pts in 36 games or 75 pt pace in 48 vs 60 in 48 for MSL

MSL got lucky for his 2013 ross especially while 2004 a lot of league guys had bad years and Forsberg missed over 50% of the year vs only 25% in smaller size like Crosby
Ok so he gets 2 second place finishes in scoring, that's still way better than anything Panarin has done, while not being a cherry-picker.

Panarin came 3rd in pts and 3rd in ppg in 2020 with 95 pts behind Mcdavid and Draisaitl

He came 15th in total pts in 2021 but 3rd in ppg behind Mcdavid and Draisaitl

He came 4th in pts and ppg in 2024 behind Mcdavid, Mackinnon, and Kucherov

This season is young so we will see but he looks poised for another top3-5 pts+ppg season in 2025

Every player who came ahead of him (McD, Drai, Kuch, Mack) is a greater player all time then MSL already.

Panarin has been every bit as impressive as MSL was in the reg season. Playoffs he has disapointed though

St.Louis also generally had better linemates including peak Stamkos for his second Art Ross. Trocheck and Laf were very good last year and the NY PP is also strong, but Panarin’s ‘20 season saw him do that next to Strome and Fast at ES

I'm leaning towards MSL for his playoffs. Once Panarin wins a cup I may change my vote. I got Panarin regular season but leaning towards MSL for playoffs

Wouldn't matter if he wins a cup if he pulls his disappearing act like usual and gets carried. MSL led the charge in just about every single playoff year he was in, couldn't fault his effort in any losses whereas Panarin is struggling in an era where playoff scoring has been made significantly easier.

Thats a very good point. Look at him this year leading the league with an improved Laf and your run of the mill 1/2 C in Tro

Generally yes, st.Louis had better support. I agree. But let's not forget that Panarin arrived in the NHL to peak Patrick Kane on his line. Two of Panarin's four 30+ goal seasons came in those two years together.

Because I was curious, MSL had six 30+ goal seasons.

Kind of moot unless we assume Panarin will age as well as someone who had an Art Ross and runner up past the age of 35
Panarin won't be much older than 35 when he passes MSL in points, if at all.

I definitely think playing in a higher scoring NHL is a huge factor, but which one ages better won't be.

Scoring eras matter, lol.

I feel like Panarin last year or in 19-20 is pretty similar or maybe even better than St.Louis’ 03-04 or 10-11 (which I consider better than his Art Ross in 2013). Still, Panarin hasn’t had a playoff run like St.Louis’ ‘04, and I’d give the edge to Marty for that.
Came to say playoffs give the edge to MSL.
