Proposal: Panarin for Kempe

This team needs to blow it up starting at the top. Luc, Blake and that hanger-on Bergivan have got to go. Once that done, if Kempe is to be traded, it will be expensive and it will be for young players and futures to bump start the rebuild. There’s no need for vet contracts.

Interesting proposal. I don't think the age and cash gap makes up for the talent gap, so LA likely says no.

edit- age isn't a huge factor. Didn't realize Kempe is going into his age 29 season.

What if Kempe refuses to extend this summer? Do the Kings "self-rent" him for one more playoff run an lose him for nothing? Or do they trade him for a player or pieces that will be there longer than one year?
I think that definitely changes things for them. At that point I think they'd lean towards a rebuild. As a Rangers fan I'd love to get Kempe, I just don't think the Kings will trade him to add an older player. If the Kings were to add Panarin it would be in a push to win it all with Kempe on the roster imo.

I don't see Panarin pushing them over the hump when it comes to playoffs. Kempe hasn't been the problem in the playoffs and Panarin hasn't been impressive lately in the playoffs. This doesn't make sense since they both have 1 year on their cap, and Panarin cost more. The cap hit for Kempe is beautiful and even if he doesn't extend, there's no difference in losing him for nothing or losing Panarin for nothing. They should just keep what they have.

Kings do not need Panarin with his salary and PR issues.

They need this money to resign Gavrikov and Jeannot

Would you be interested in Panarin to Kings for Kopitar, and Moore?
I can't see Kings sending Kopitar away to a team that might not even be contenders. It seems more of a deadline move if Kings are not in the playoffs and they want to send Kopitar to somewhere he can win

The only scenario in which I see Panarin traded to the Kings is if the Rangers need to clear cap space to sign Marner.
He would look really good next to Kopitar and Kempe. And if Kuzmenkovs demands are too rich that might be an avenue the Kings will explore, but they should never trade Kempe for him
