You're probably wondering what the hell palm trees are doing in Buffalo. Well, here's the scoop for you.

A week or so ago GM Kevyn Adams said Buffalo can't attract players because Buffalo doesn't have palm trees (among other reasons). Sabres fans, in response, began bringing inflatable palm trees to clown on their GM.

Well, as of last night, they were banned from the stadium. They must be deflated before entering the stadium.

I know we probably don't need another Buffalo thread, but as a Sabres fan...i thought this was comical.

Well, they weren't expressly banned. They were not allowed in while inflated. Doesn't stop someone from bringing in a blowup and a pump. The potential for comedic exploits is not lost on me...

How soon til Kevyn Adams is gone? His palm trees comment is reminiscent of Chuck Fletcher's "we have an app" comment.

edit: imagine if the Flyers had banned fans from bringing phones into the arena lmao
I don’t remember that. What’s the back story here?

This sucks. The best way to respond to misery is humour, why take that away from the fans?

I suppose it could be an insult to the players, but still, lame.
It's an insult to our soft management. The players I bet dont mind it at all - it's if anything a support for those that have decided to come here.

Our GM doesn't like it because its a justified mockery of his own doing

Kevyn Adams seems like a sad sad man and also a terrible GM
My uncle was neighbors with him for several years back in 08-12. He was a good guy, and I think he still is. Unfortunately, I think he just isn't equipped for the deep challenges of the GM role. If you have a great team and you need to continue to sign them to deals and keep the lights on, he probably can be decent enough. You want to improve your roster via tough decisions? I dont see him being able to do it

Good evidence of a bunker mentality when somebody can't take good-natured criticism. This is something that a guy expecting on his desk an empty box, a gift-wrapped Timex, and a pink slip would do.

Adams seems like a nice enough guy, but that doesn't equate to the very strong staff leadership required of a GM .... nor does it equate to good decisions.

But Adams is not the primary problem, which starts at the very top with Pegula apparently not having any strong vision of what he wants to do with the Sabres other than have them just sort of muddle along year after year.

If you don't know where you're going, then nowhere is where you are going to end up.

I tried searching for the actual clip but couldn't find it.

Days before he was fired (or maybe the day before) there was a town hall meeting where Chuck Fletcher met with Flyers season ticket holders to discuss the state of the team. When talking about trades, he remarked something like "we have an app [to evaluate trade value]" and people were quick to start joking that Fletcher brainlessly uses an app to tell him which players to trade.

It was very similar to Adams' statement in that everyone started quoting it out of context and using it to bash the GM.

Not like I'm defending either Adams or Fletcher here, just pointing out they said something silly in public, then it was blown out of proportion by the fans and media, and in the case of Fletcher, he was dismissed shortly afterward.

Huge miss by not leaning into this. Then they doubled down on their f*** up by cancelling fun
such a clear example of horrible mismanagement of an organization. Could literally point to this as why the team needs sold or relocated. This is the lowest hanging fruit possible, the one singular thing that makes their fans have fun and enjoy going to games, and they just stamped it out immediatley.

Seriously pisspoor organizational leadership.

Could have been a meme to run with and market...but no, let's choke out any last fan enthusiasm while we continually trot out failure after failure. no, it is the FANS who must be out of touch!

Because god forbid the few loyal fans they had left enjoy themselves at the game they paid good money to attend

I’m not a Buffalo guy but the more I think of this the more irritated i get with it
