Yes but Fabbro was also dismissed by many. It's also not like he's absolutely killed it in Columbus, but yes clearly worth his contract, and could develop more consistency. I'd think Jokiharyu not gelling with those great players is concerning, but an issue I see there is that they are all too young. Maybe he progresses better playing with Nurse, Ekholm and Kulak.

Also, hasn't Jokiharyu generally had a great reputation but has only recently fallen off?
I doubt he had any good reputation, he always played a role he shouldn't have, he's don't first pair defenseman, he didn't play very well in the top 4. He plays like a guy who wants to attack, move the puck, not like a guy who covers his PMD in a pair well.

You can have Krebs for very little

I talked about it about a couple months ago. The Flames were already pretty close to acquiring him according to some of the Flames more insider type guys on social media and were told to 'wait and see'. I imagine the waiting and the seeing is sort of complete.

What would that take on your end for Krebs? Like a mid round pick? Or do you want a prospect of similar pedigree back? Or some vet?

In terms of a larger framework in a Cozens/Krebs deal, what does that look like in terms of what the ask would be?

His existential value might be a mid round pick, but I can guarantee you the Sabres aren’t taking that for him.

He seems to be very well like player because of his grit and flexibility, and it would take much much more to get him out of there solo. Thinking an equivalent player that’s a defenseman R shot and young.

Given what he was traded for, and the reasons about, he’s really not available for a mid round pick in any capacity… Or really a pic for a player trade at all. Theyd rather keep him and see what he becomes.

There need to be some youth coming back with weegar as well if the Sabres are gonna give up on cozens - proposil could fit.

Maybe, Idk, but I'm mainly interested in Weegar, I think he could be a very important part of the defense that we lack.

I am with you. Weegar is the type of D man that, for us, would change our entire D corps. He shoves all our D playing on the right down the line up to where they should be. He gives us a much better option when we are on the PK or need to defend a lead than anyone else on the team.

Shoulda got one game in
I'm thinking the Oilers' realistic targets are buy-low players. For instance, it would have been good to get Fabbro.

Imo a complement to Nurse doesn't need to be physical. They need to skate well, pass well, shoot right, and play smart. I looked up Joki and it said he was a great skater. Is it possible he's holding back to avoid being out of position?

I know he's a bit of an odd target, but by ice time he's being crowded out by high profile dmen like Byram, Power and Dahlin. I'm thinking the Oilers are not looking for someone as good as our top 3 dmen. It's not just acquisition cost, but also long term cap management. Imo it's smart to gamble there. Stecher is doing kind good there and he was a marginal NHLer. Joki has got to be a step up of that, and with potential to excel.

I don’t think he’d be a compliment to Nurse. Or he might be, but I’m of the opinion that Joker would be the PMD on a third pairing with a defensively responsible guy.

Think paired with a guy similar to Ekholm, but obviously not Ekholm.

He’s fine as a pass-first, skate it out dman, but once past the opposition’s blueline he’s an idiot.

Scandella - Joker (best play Joki)

Thinking Flames would add to Weegar in a trade with Buffalo is wild. Best player in the deal with the best contract.

You know Tuch is only making 4 mil a year for a couple more years right? Better contract is laughable. Weegar has a good contract for now but that will likely be an anchor in 3 years. Tuch is a great value now and then no commitment

If I’m Buffalo I’m trading Cozens and Quinn. Quinn can score, yay, but I haven’t seen much in the rest of his game- I feel like Peterka and Kulich are scoring as much or more.

Cozens- I just feel like he’s been gripping the stick too hard since that contract. It’s weird, but he came in and excelled off excitement and high percentages, but then he starts thinking and trying to add to his game- and it hasn’t gone well. Give him a re-set and less pressure. Never really thought he had the puck skills to be amazing in the first place, but he’d be a hell of a 50 point 2C/3C guy.

Anywho, that leaves us a center short, and we haven’t even touched the D. Power, possibly, but his offensive is starting to pop- can you trade Byram, the dude you just brought in? Not really.

I guess I’d look to trade Cozens for a similar piece (McTavish), Quinn and picks for an established RD, and Samuelsson and Joker for whatever.

The situation with Byram is ambiguous. Power has serious problems with playing defense and softness. I would trade one of them for all the same positions that we need. Moreover, Byram seems to be looking for a situation where he will be 1D and PP1.
