I understand he probably wants the max deal he can get in a growing cap. If so, Habs are not trading for the rental without a good extension. 6x $7.5M would close to what we offer. Do we go to $8M? Not sure. I'd be a little more worried about the decline at age 36 and 37. A contract until 35 is manageable for someone who should head into slight decline years from 31-35. Basically you get 4 good years and 4 more with modest decline but still a vet who does the job.
H Lindholm signed for 8x $6.5M but that was in 2022 with a lower cap. I believe his 8 year deal takes him to age 35/36 (Jan birthdate). $7.5M or $8M AAV might not be far off for R Andersson. Salaries will rise but not every single player will get a $1M-$2M boost. That extra cap space is more likely to be spend on players in their prime.

My offer yesterday was...
* One of our 1sts (More likely 10-18 range). This is likely the best 1st rounder you can get. Most contenders offer 25-32 range 1st.
* Beck or Mailloux (C or RD)
* Newhook (Young NHL proven piece who can play all positions)
* Savard (Flames get to use him for their playoff run)
* Conditions.. Once we agree on the pieces, Habs want permission to talk to Andersson's agent on what they would be looking for an extension July 1st. Deal might fall though depending on what they tell us. Maybe he wants to be in Montreal, maybe he doesn't.
If some other team matches or trumps it, we let them. That's as deep as I would go for Andersson.

5'-9" 180lb center? That's what you are after for a center prospect? I'm pretty sure Beck fits that narrative and his AHL numbers are very comparable to Savoie.

The extension would be key. H Lindholm got 8x $6.5M taking him to age 35/36 (signed in 2022 with a lower cap). I have no doubt R Andersson might be looking for the 8 year deal as well but I would try to avoid it as much as possible. It would really come down to a conversation with Andersson and how much he would want to be in Montreal and join our growing core. An 8 year extension (handshake agreement) would be basically 10.5 years when you add what is left on his current deal. Who knows, he may be open to the 6 or 7 year term.
We all know those 31-37 age range contracts are risky. Some age well and some don't. I think Andersson ages well with his good skating.
Would this reflect what most Sens fans would do?

I think he is a A or A+ type. It's early but I and many other Habs fans like what we see.
Skating: Check
Size: Check
Compete level: Check
Skill: Check
Great shot and scoring ability: Check
Production showing early in the NCAA: Check
Hage is leading all players age 19 and under in the NCAA in production. And he's doing that on a team that is not stacked. He's basically the only pt/game player and at age 18... his first NCAA season. Yeah, this warrants a little hype and if you had him, you would be pumping it up too.
The only thing I might say is he may be a RW at the NHL level. We see this so often and his style of game might be C/RW type. Someone like Beck is a true type center.

Probably not. But I really do like both of them for different reasons. Demidov is like Blue Chip level. Hage is level below him. That's if they both reach their ceilings.

Like I said before, it don't matter. I very much doubt the Habs trade Hage. You can chime in as you wish but it has zero factor in the Andersson trade package we would offer. If you say Hage has to be in it, we are out. Other teams can try. Interested in Andersson with extension but not desperate.
What's your angle on this? To belittle the prospect grade on someone we don't have on the table in trade discussions? Make us come to our senses and include Hage in the proposal?
I never said Hage had to be in on it.
I pointed out that calling Hage an A+ prospect is absurd and proved it by your own admission that he's not even on the level of somebody in your own pool.

I usually do not agree with crazy proposals from Habs Halifax, but I have to agree on Hage. James Hagens is supposed to be No1 of upcoming draft. Hage is having better offensive numbers, playing with way weaker linemates, he is bigger and he is just 7 months older.
I am trying to stay calm with him, but I would say Demidov is literally on the level of his own among all NHL prospects.

This isn't an opinion. "A+" is generally accepted as the highest grade somebody can achieve. You've already conceded that Hage is not as good as prospects such as your own Demidov. If we're calling Demidov an "A+ prospect", being the highest grade, then, by your own admission, Hage is not on that level, and therefore is not an A+ prospect as you claimed.

It's not only the Habs fans. Most teams value the guys with size but also have skating/skill over the smaller guys. Especially at center. If you think it's only the Habs fans who do this, I think you should rethink it.
How many top 2C's in the NHL today that are 5'-9" and 180 lbs? Then quantify all the ones who didn't make it.
