Rumor: Pagnotta: "Rasmus Andersson is open to a trade, he would welcome it" It would cost 3 assets...1st rnd pick, prospect, +

I don't see why not if they go a good playoff run. Calgary is better than Winnipeg but it isn't wildly different.
Better as in team or as in location.
I never understood players having a location issue with WPG.
During the season, they play so often they’re not doing much but playing, practicing, and working out.
During the offseason, they’ve been paid enough that they should be able to go anywhere they want without it being an issue.

Better to trade him now if he wants out
Oh for sure. But it just seems a bit odd to say that, versus, "My client is going to be looking at his options when Free Agency comes around." This makes it seem like the rest of the team isn't trying and he doesn't want to be a part of it, moving forward. I would expect this kind of statement from someone on the Sabres, Rangers, or Predators.

I don’t want to move him but if they have even the slightest feeling they won’t be able to retain him I think you have to move him this year when he’s got 1.5 years left on his sweetheart deal as opposed to next when he’s a pending UFA and you’re just getting that classic package of late first + ok prospect + random roster player

His value right now is higher than it will ever be. I think Dallas or Buffalo makes the most sense. Dallas if it’s futures and Buffalo if the flames are targeting younger guys that are more established

Well, no.
When we were trading half our team last year, we were in full expectation of just getting a bunch of future assets. However based on the fact that Calgary moved 5-6 players in the last 400 days all for futures packages; I just don’t think Calgary will run at the opportunity to get a 26th overall a C prospect and some cap dump for a defender with 1.5 years left on their deal.
Yeah you're not gonna pretend Calgary fans didn't spend months talking about pieces like Mercer, Nemec, and 10th overall in regards to Jacob Markstrom.

Everyone WANTS the quality. But they don't get it.

Yeah not surprising if true. The sense has been that Andersson doesn't want to stick around for a rebuild plus all of his best friends from the previous era have left. The Flames might be doing a little better than expected this season but that doesn't change the longterm outlook.

If Andersson says he does not want to extend and the Flames slip a bit where they know they won't make the playoffs (near TDL)... Does this offer get you thinking? If the Habs make this offer and you are open to it, we would need to hear from Andersson if he is interested in extending with the Habs. If he also says he prefers to head to UFA, we are out.

* Habs 1st with lottery protection (probably 10-16 range)

* Newhook. Plays both wings and center if you need it. Still RFA after his current bridge contract. More like a middle 6F type IMO.

* Mailloux. Young RD prospect with size/skating/great shot. Needs to mature on the D side

* Possible 2nd rounder pick added.

I like Mailloux but RD is a position of strength in our prospect pool so if they’re moving him for this type of package I’d prefer Hage from the habs. Newhook doesn’t really move the needle for me

If the habs don’t want to move Hage which is understandable I think Calgary would take this kind of deal from a different team who could offer a C or LD prospect as opposed to RD

I think his value will be at it’s highest this summer when he can sign an extension.

More teams will be interested and the price would then be higher.

I was thinking about that as well. Very possible because teams who dig deep in futures, want a shot at extending.

Hage is not on the table. Our dangle is our 1st (10-16) as the prime piece. You draft your own Hage. I don't see any team offering a pick from 10-16 and a grade A prospect trending very well.

We could consider swapping out Mailloux for one of Beck or Kapanen. I like both Beck and Kapanen equally, and hard to decide who will be better.

* Habs 1st is our prime offer (likely 10-16 range)
* Newhook as the young proven NHL piece who is still RFA after the bridge deal
* One of Mailloux, Beck, Kapanen (you pick)
* 2nd round pick as a sweetener

Contingent on Andersson verbally saying he is very much interested in extending with the Habs.

Buffalo should be all over it. Byram + 1st + a prospect. Byram is from Calgary. Andersson pairs with Dahlin and makes the Rasmus squared pair.

Considering their first is going to be in the lottery again, I doubt they do that. Maybe if they push it off to 2026 instead, even then, I doubt they do pick and prospect with a player of Byram's chops.

Yeah wouldn’t do it for me, don’t love the depth of the draft this year. I’d be fine with a later first and a grade A prospect in a position we need more than a first 10 picks higher

Really depends on the team. For Montreal, I understand that they would be looking to re-sign him and this summer would be the time for a trade. For a team like Colorado or Florida, they would be more interested in getting him for cheap for two playoff runs.

I was definitely talking location haha . I wish the Flames were better than the Jets currently. If I was a millionaire athlete Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg would be pretty low on my list but Andersson like Calgary .

Yes. Anyone that sends a package will want an extension, which can be done simultaneously at that point. That's a much broader range of teams than the list of "think we can win a Cup this year or next year"

I think it's the best the Habs can offer. I'm a little worried about what Andersson would ask for though... A 7/8 year term is age 30-36/37. Hard to say what the last 3 years look like but regardless, he does have high trade value today

The other thing that worries me is you trade us Andersson and then the Flames slip more and fall to 10 or lower. Then we don't get your 1st, we get the Panthers 1st and you keep your 1st which might slip to 9 or 10. :naughty:

Any inkling on whether Weegar might move or waive his NTC if they asked?

I'd sooner try to trade for Weegar if it was remotely possible. He's only got 6 years left at a lower contract number and he will be 37 when the deal expires.

With Andersson, if you trade for him and sign him you're basically committing for 9 years (1 year left plus 8 year extension) at a higher number than Weegar. He would also be 37 when that 8 year extension expires.

You can't extend Andresson until July this summer. Maybe you already know that.

How many teams would make the trade now... but get assurance from Andersson that he is very much interested in extending?

And those teams have the crappiest packages to offer.

Their prospects don't exist because they've already been good for a while, good/cheap/extended roster players are off the table because then they're just filling one hole to create another and their picks are going to be super low and borderline worthless.

-Andersson would welcome a trade out of Calgary
- 3 assets.... 1st round pick, prospect, +...... the 3rd asset would depend on how good the prospect is that would be returning to the flames.

Montreal has extra first plus deep prospect pool. Probably can work something out

Team too bad for us to rise. Wolf too good for us to slip. Welcome to the flame zone :help:
