Yeah that's ugly. I'd feel a lot better if we knew what the plan was with our young guns.
Would feel better to know what the plan is period. People are just pure reacting right now. The reactions that a typical fan could do better than any GM is just plain disingenuous. Now we can sure disagree with decisions but when we have no indication the direction Trotz has in his crystal ball all the speculation in the world is senseless.
A week or so ago I asked who the core was going to be in 5 years. All the current roster will be aged out at that point as impactful core players. No one here are even considering that . All these young guys that have been moved out have been complementary players bottom. 6 guys focusing on these type players is like trying to put out a Forrest fire with a bucket. Now for me to beat up on Trotz some his moving Askarov was inexcusable. Granted he thought adding the veterans to this roster could extend the teams competitiveness. I really though pre season that he made strides to that but was still short the 2C to center Stammer and March is was as close to two hood scoring lines as this team had on paper in a long time. Askarov could have been a player to start building a core around.
First thing we need to know is what Trotz plan is long term. If it is the Poile stay the course at this point there will be a decade of suck coming. Look at what that did to the Hawks who sucked for 20 years until they finally found a couple golden eggs drafting to 10 for years. They had their run and back to sucking again. Trotz has not let much out of the bag what he is planning but actions are more impactful. What I take from it is he is now piling up futures to build a core for 2030. That has to be the current push he has moved out the complementary players .
The gorilla I. The room remains who are the core? Askarov would have been if he turned out. But potential 40 point guys are not the focus now. How many years was it just dreaming about a 70 point player here? Now Trotz has to identify mutiple potential 70 point guys.
Scoring in the league continues to rise the initial years we experienced winning games by a single goal with total goals less than 5 are gone. Total team goals expectations is
Approaching 300 team goals a year. There are teams pushing the 330 goal mark per year. 4 goals a game will be common before long. Years ago we thought an average of 3.5 goals was mind blowing. So the new core Trotz has to have high expectations. The game has sure changed in 25 years.
So again who is going to be the core?
