OUT: Fabbro, Carrier, Tomasino, Wedgewood, Pässininen, 7th rounder in 2026 (all players signed by Trotz during 2024).

The return: Annunen, Barron, Pavel (AHLer), 6th in 2025, 3rd and 4th rounders in 2027.

Five members of the opening night roster for maybe two return players on the roster, a late pick this coming draft, two mid round picks three drafts away.
Yeah that's ugly. I'd feel a lot better if we knew what the plan was with our young guns.

It's a display of incompetence. I don't see how one can seriously argue otherwise.
I agree, but I'd wager a large sum of money that this is still Trotz and Bruno implementing their "style and system". It's the same argument I made on Fabbro. They don't know how to use him and aren't interested in learning. Play how they want or kick rocks...if you are a young player. If your older on a long term deal, well your fine, we will just substitute our frustration onto another player.

Agreed. That's the thinking that's on full display and echoed in what Trotz has said as well.

He's going to let Bruno make all the talent evaluations and roster decisions. Barry is completely sold on Bruno's "all new way to hockey" and is going to help him drill holes in the bottom of the ship.

This is a pointless trade given they didn't give Parssinen a chance this year. Having said that I think he's less likely than the other young castoffs to pan out. Just stupid that they keep giving up on young talent when it's clear there's barely an opportunity given to prove themselves, and no reason not to on a team that's going nowhere.

A 2027 third round pick? Trotz is such an easy mark.

Granted, this is far better than waiving a player which we do with all of our previous first rounders.

This is such a poorly run team right now in just about every facet.

Trotz needs to course correct with a home run because right now he is selling for rock bottom pricing and making no room for talent to develop.

Haha right?

A third rounder sounds pretty okay except for a few things:

First JP is the type of player we should be giving a chance. Size and offensive skill. Young.

AND

A third round pick in 2027? This has very small value. Colorado keeps their ammo and time to develop a player, and we take a pick 3 years from now? That player won't even be available for likely 6-7 years.

He really isnt that off though. In a vacuum, we turned a 7th round pick (Pärssinen) and a 6th into a AHL player and a 3rd. That isnt terrible return on your investment.

Now, how we got to this position of trading a promising young player to begin with is a different issue.

Trade value isnt that bad. Having to trade him to begin with is stupid as hell

A NHL ready player with size for an unknown that might become a player in 2031. Trotz's brilliance encapsulated.

In a vacuum yes, but Parssinen has improved on his 7th round status.

Pärssinen is a NHL level player ... not some abstract 7th rounder that might never become a pro. What Trotz did is turn a NHL player into that abstract pick in the future that might become a player or might be Diaby part deux.

Is he a NHL player here though? Bruno wont play him. Trotz wont fire Bruno.

Thats why i say how we got here is dumb as hell. Parsinnen is likely better than anyone we pick with that 3rd.

A 3rd round pick has a negative chance of becoming an NHLer, but even if he does, the chances of that third rounder playing immediately are even smaller. It's 2024 and we are basically acquiring an asset that MAY be ready 6-7 years from now if everything goes well.

Just wild to me.

Like, I'm glad we didn't waive Pars. Do not get me wrong. Just the way we are doing things...

Trotz is a target. Everyone is laughing at the Predators. If you don't believe that right now, NGMI

Yeah, the 7th into a 3rd falls a bit flat with Parsnip being an NHL quality player (anywhere but Nashville at this point, apparently) and a 3rd is statistically unlikely to play the 104 career games he already has thus far. It's a "hit" of a draft pick into a mystery pick that's unlikely to pan out. Same line of terrible asset management Trotz has already been taking.

I don't think the picks are the endgame to all of this, having said that if we're being generous I think Trotz is picking a few different drafts to stockpile; this year's, '23 I think, and '27? Not saying I like the deal or think it's fair or makes sense.

Yeah that's ugly. I'd feel a lot better if we knew what the plan was with our young guns.
Would feel better to know what the plan is period. People are just pure reacting right now. The reactions that a typical fan could do better than any GM is just plain disingenuous. Now we can sure disagree with decisions but when we have no indication the direction Trotz has in his crystal ball all the speculation in the world is senseless.

A week or so ago I asked who the core was going to be in 5 years. All the current roster will be aged out at that point as impactful core players. No one here are even considering that . All these young guys that have been moved out have been complementary players bottom. 6 guys focusing on these type players is like trying to put out a Forrest fire with a bucket. Now for me to beat up on Trotz some his moving Askarov was inexcusable. Granted he thought adding the veterans to this roster could extend the teams competitiveness. I really though pre season that he made strides to that but was still short the 2C to center Stammer and March is was as close to two hood scoring lines as this team had on paper in a long time. Askarov could have been a player to start building a core around.

First thing we need to know is what Trotz plan is long term. If it is the Poile stay the course at this point there will be a decade of suck coming. Look at what that did to the Hawks who sucked for 20 years until they finally found a couple golden eggs drafting to 10 for years. They had their run and back to sucking again. Trotz has not let much out of the bag what he is planning but actions are more impactful. What I take from it is he is now piling up futures to build a core for 2030. That has to be the current push he has moved out the complementary players .

The gorilla I. The room remains who are the core? Askarov would have been if he turned out. But potential 40 point guys are not the focus now. How many years was it just dreaming about a 70 point player here? Now Trotz has to identify mutiple potential 70 point guys.

Scoring in the league continues to rise the initial years we experienced winning games by a single goal with total goals less than 5 are gone. Total team goals expectations is
Approaching 300 team goals a year. There are teams pushing the 330 goal mark per year. 4 goals a game will be common before long. Years ago we thought an average of 3.5 goals was mind blowing. So the new core Trotz has to have high expectations. The game has sure changed in 25 years.

So again who is going to be the core?

Core: Forsberg, Josi, Saros
Secondary: March, Stamkos, Skjei
Prospects: next gen...

It's not hard to identify our next core group

Didn't you hate the Askarov pick? Because we drafted Finley in 99?
