Owen Sound Attack 2024-25 Season, Part I

Great pick up for the short term and an OA candidate moving forward...
His NCAA commitment starts next season. I think it's very unlikely he factors into next year's squad. Things can always change but I don't expect to see him next year in an Attack sweater, which is fine as we should have more than enough depth at the position and need the playing time for the young guys that should be on the team next year. Smart bit of business by DeGray to fill a need now for free and not really impact next year at all.

The Attack theoretically should have two OA spots up for grabs next year assuming Petrovski has one spot and Waddick moves on. With some teams having an abundance of OA candidates to sort through over the offseason, the Attack should be well positioned to capitalize on the market.

I agree but options are now available for player and team...

Pretty outstanding week of hockey from the Attack. Really like what we're seeing right now from this group. Nansi has put together a few good games in a row now and hopefully starts finding his stride. Zurawski has started driving a line of his own after Mbuyi was promoted to the top line and really asserting himself. Mbuyi has taken off and been filling the net of late. Lots of positives.

Really liked George this weekend. Koprowski getting two straight seemed to allow George a reset and he looks to have rebounded back into form.

Greenberg looks like a solid add and has given some steady minutes. The blueline has really stepped up with Bedkowski going down with injury.

Overall, impressive stretch of play from this Attack team. Lots of "big Mo" going the Attack's way right now.

If Saginaw can beat the Soo tonight the boys are 2 points back and right in a playoff race.

They look like a much improved team since the deadline, if for no other reason than they are fighting for each other and every inch of ice in a way we haven't seen before. Willing to scrap after every whistle, jam for every puck, it's the progress they need.

I think Hookey having the C has shifted the room because he drags the whole team into the fight with him, never takes a shift off. Great to see him fulfilling his potential and it seems to be rubbing off on the others.

(Edit: and worth pointing out that guys like Waddick and Petrovski have turned it on of late. I don't think it's a coincidence)

I've been a Hookey fan since he came here and agree giving him the C was huge. He has the respect of his mates and as you said drags them into the fight. I believe his first words as Captain were we're making the playoffs.

Interestingly enough, in the Bear Tracker pod this option was certainly left open. I think its more than likely he heads off to school but the possibility to him returning for an OA season seems to be more of a possibility than I would have thought.

Something else that may or may not factor in. Coach said they have talked to his school and they are happy he's here due to the extras like off ice training, nutrition training etc,so would they be receptive for him spending him O/A season here?

Those comments were certainly interesting. I suspect we hear/see more of this with the school commitment players that come as the OHL becomes part of the development process for those kids heading to the NCAA in a sort of partnership. It sounds like the changes Scott Wray made with regards to the training regimen and scheduling for the kids has been a very popular change and established more of a professional environment. That seems to be a common point for the players who have come to the Attack when they talk about the differences between teams/leagues etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it was Zurawski who specifically mentioned that they did very little/infrequent off ice training in Flint and was impressed with the scheduling and work out time in Owen Sound. I think the development track that Owen Sound is starting to establish can become a major selling point in player recruitment.

I think when it comes to Greenberg, the Attack certainly have room for him as an OA if they want to do that. I'm not sure if it's a great idea to run two OAs on the blueline with both Petrovski and Greenberg next year if it is another development season but it is an option. I think you've got the next 20-ish games for everybody to get acquainted and see what Greenberg can do. Bit of a try out to see where things go.

This team has been very exciting to watch this season, even though the record hasn't shown in the standings this group has had 15 one goal games during this season.

19 games remaining on the season and this team has taken big steps forward in developing this core of players. The compete has been trending in the direction we all hoped to see this season, and even though this group sits on the outside of the playoff picture in the standings it's not at all out of the possibility see this group sneak into the last playoff spot in the conference.

Even against a top team like the Rangers tonight this group kept the game close where it counted on the scoresheet, all good things to see.

Officially 2 points back of the Soo after another great team performance. Both teams play at 2 this aft so a win and some help from Oshawa will put the boys dead even for 8th.

Also given the prodigious heater he's on now with 16 points in 10 games, we can start the Mbuyi franchise records for 16 year olds watch. Greg Cowan tweeted about the goals yesterday, but with 18 games left, Mbuyi is only 15 behind Barlow's (Edit: and Hishon's) point record of 47.

Pierce Mbuyi has 11 G ,15 pts, 2 hat tricks in his last ten games
He has taken over the lead in rookie goals scored , among all age groups .
Was my darkhorse prediction for ROTY this year. Good to see that’s still standing.

OHL cup should be huge for rankings but it seems most scouts just use it as another tournament.

O’Brien led scoring in OHL cup- went 8th overall and won rookie of the year. Mbuyi led scoring in OHL cup- went 7th overall and may win rookie of the year. I see a pattern forming here.

Misa in 2022 led OHL cup that was a pretty easy pick though- exceptional status so let’s do top 3… Michael Hage canadiens first rounder and porter martone projected top 4 pick in this draft.

Going back to 2019: wright, Othmann, Francesco pinelli top 3 scorers

2018 will cuylle led the cup in scoring, Perfetti 2 pts off that.

Side note- looking at the stats of Valentini and Mbuyi last year I’m sure if Valentini came to the OHL he would tear it up. Had 40 more points and 4 more goals in 2 less games than Mbuyi

Let's see what the boys can muster today against the Fronts, who were spanked last night .

This is a different Attack squad who lost in Kingston in the fall.

It'll take all hands on deck and stellar goaltending to squeeze out a point .

Just playing with the numbers, if Mbuyi finishes the final 18 games scoring at his season statistical rate, he would finish with 28 goals and 45 points. If his heater that he's on can continue it's not hard to see him taking both records this season.
