Ya I know , they where a fun team to watch last season , and I think they will be the team to beat this season as long as Gill lets them play that same system that got them so far last season , but the thing is the coach has the last word on the system they play , after coaching minor hockey for 16 years I always had a free hand with the system I taught and I think that will be the case in OS as well ..

Good points. I would bet Gill was hired for his good defensive ideas but in today's game you have to create as much offense as possible from all positions. London is a great example. That is what the Attack were known for last season. They had a great coach with a hell of a resume. Hopefully Gill is able to fill those shoes.

Right now I think OS has the best goaltender in the league , if Gill puts a decent "D" in front of him this team will make it to the Memorial cup tourney , I still think they will be the cream of the OHL this season ..

From what I know about Todd Gill he is a puck possession defensive coach that coaches a "D" first game , he has great success at this style of coaching and I expect him to use the same system in OS , too bad , I think OS had a real good system going for them with that all out attack they had last season , that is not going to happen with Gill behind the bench ..

Kingston increased scoring and decreased goals against every year he was in Kingston, They scored over 300 goals his last year there....He likes his players to forechecking hard create turnovers, cycle the puck and create chances by puck possession in the offensive zone....He likes to roll 4 lines and makes players accountable on and off the ice and he is pretty calm behind the bench....I think he is a great fit with the talent in OS as he had many small marginal OHL players in Kingston.

If Gill is truly all who you say he is then the Attack are in for a really good 1st stint with TG behind the bench I'd say with the returning core talent should have no trouble picking up what Gill puts in place early on in the season and still be able to make some noise early on in 2017/18. In the Western conference transition game is key to success and defense is the base of that it seems for the past few seasons hopefully Gill can continue to instil that this season and make a run for the top half of the western conference standings early on in the year.

Those are good stats that gel well with the Attack's style.

This sounds like what we heard in the interview with TG and DD. I would add there was a note about how important faceoff wins in the O zone were in his puck possession style. Everything I hear makes me very happy with Todd as our coach. With Cordell James gone we will need some guys to step up their faceoff skills, maybe even bring in a specialist.

In his last year with Kingston Gill had a great regular season with the team having the 2nd best record in the conference. However, they were upset in the first round of the playoffs by the Petes and he ended up paying the price.

No deals pulled by Digs thus trade freeze lifted, which I'd say is to be expected at this point in time. I'd think a lot would have to due with NHL camps and U17 and U18 challenges would be a huge part of why Digs didn't pull the trigger on day one of the trade freeze being lifted.

Although I'd expect that options would be open to at least one deal be made if the right return comes along in Digs lap before season opener.

Dale really needs to recover draft picks for the up and coming draft. Owen Sound has a total of 11 picks in next years draft cupboard.

Last season really thinned out the top half of the picks (Listed Below along with dealt picks and returns)

1st Attack
2nd Otters (via MacDermid)
2nd Knights( via Mete)
6th Attack
8th Attack
9th Attack
10th Attack
11th Attack
13th Attack
14th Attack
15th Attack

(Moved)

3rd dealt for Schmalz
4th dealt for James
5th dealt for Bourque
7th dealt for Vella
12th dealt for Van Schubert

For the most part 3 out of the 5 picks dealt away turned out to work in the Attack's favour last season.

The James deal really ended up never leading to points produced in the playoffs, However the Schmalz, Bourque and Vella deals it think paid off last season and into next season.

Dale really needs to recover some of those high end picks this year to fill the draft cupboard between now and when the season starts.

I'd say the want list would be hopefully getting a 3rd or 4th without sacrificing too much of the young talent returning to the team for next season.

The team seems to be fairly set up front and on the back end hopefully Dale can move some of the prospects that can't find spots in the lineup for assets for the draft next spring. Really needs to pick up the top half of the draft table

Thanks for that footnote ScoresFromCentre I knew there was a 4th sent and through some archive digging from last years deals came to that same conclusion as well

Glad I could help. It was a great trade, despite James's underwhelming playoffs.

My notes are all in the draft pick database--if you see any discrepancies, let me know!

Thanks for that insight ScoresFromCentre if anything changes that you've maybe missed on an Owen Sound Attack end I'll let you know.

If you ever get a chance to travel up to Owen Sound in 2017/18 for a game let me know maybe will get a chance to talk some OHL puck:yo:

Ward Cornell I'd go anywhere but there not to also know that its 20 mins east of Owen Sound not really close by the arena.

I'd suggest Shorty's Bar and Grill its 5 mins down the road from the Bayshore good food and drink there and good atmosphere.

If not there Joe Tomatoes on the west side of Owen Sound in the Galaxy cinema plaza dose really good pizza.

If you get a chance to get up to OS swing by section U usually can be found there during intermissions and say hi can usually be found chatting it up with Millpond and OSMike

Yes, very very familiar with OS and been to those other places numerous times. Just heard great things about Teds and want to know how it was before we headed there!

Has there been any news on the latest Import pick?

There has been quite a lot of chatter about other selections either committing to their CHL teams or playing elsewhere this coming season, nothing at all about this Attack pick.

No word yet on Filyayev committing or reporting to camp as of yet but with about two weeks till training camp kicks off for 2017/18 I would expect that if he'll be on route fairly soon.

Dale was fairly confident that his European player would fit into the club quite quickly and commit to playing in the O this fall.

From a small video clip that I searched up early on after this years Import draft he seems to fit the mold of the team with his style of play, gritty two way forward with explosive speed and a good first shot how that will related to playing in the western conference will depend more on how quickly he picks up the OHL's style of play but I don't think that will be too long

I think the jury is out until they see this kid.

Apparently they had pegged Jester Blatt, whose camp had committed to the Attack .

Of course he ended up one pick sooner, to London .

We will see how Filyayev works out in 2 weeks .

Looks like the Attack have picked up Alan Lyzczyzyk from Sudbury, no details yet.
Any Wolves fans have any thing about him ?
